Default Where can I look

Do any of you know of any good online directions for spinning deer hair? I think that I am missing something in the process.

My Bass flies are just not looking like the pattern I am fallowing.

O did I say bass?
I meant..

Goddard Cadis flies!
Yea that’s the ticket

Thanks

Meskel, is it the spinning or trimming that's a problem ?
I can spin the hair ok using the directions in the Kaufmann books, but my trimming is less than skilled. I figure it's practice, practice, practice. My uglies fish ok anyway.
You may want to try Caribou hair also, I've heard it spins easier.

Thanks for the link blazerman.

I went home and gave it another try last night. And at least one of the 5 didn’t look *****.

Steve im not sure if it is the cutting or the spinning but rather the stacking? I cant seem to get it to be as tight as it is in the pictures I am seeing. Im sure that there is one simple step that I am missing or messing up on and it is keeping me from being happy with the finished product. Im sure that part of it is that I tend to be () retentive.

I will keep trying or if I get to frustrated I will just move back to parachute Adams and add to that pile that has to be in the hundreds.

Thanks

I too tend to be a bit ( ok more than a bit ) AR. I'm assuming that by stacking you mean packing the clumps of spun hair together rather than stacking it even prior to spinning. If the stacking/packing is a problem it may be that you're spinning too tight. Spin just tight enough to hold it snug then pinch it between your thumb, index and middle finger and push hard. If you slip on occasion and drive the point into your finger that's about the right pressure, I swear . The trick is to stop just before the slip. There are also delrin tools just for this. I've never tried them though. I find the promise of a hook point just the motivation I need to time it right.
don't give up, it will pan out.

not too much hair, two loose wraps, and a tight one after. Trimming (I've found) is best done with the scissors in the right hand and the left guiding and steadying the tip to cut exactly where you want. The razor blade deal sucks.
