Default Boat in the Garage Burping Gas...!

I finally got the chance to put my predator in our new garage last night....it's a beautiful thing.

One problem, I went to move it this morning and the thing burped gas onto the floor and the drywall in the back of the garage...gas furnace also in the garage...gas water heater also in the garage.

I am worried about this happening and causing an explosion . You guys that keep your boats in the garage what is your remedy.

The gas burped out of the breather on the transom when I barely moved it, it looked like the gas had worked its way up into the fill tube, when I opened the fill cap it made a bellow sound and the gas went back down into the tank.

Help me out.

Signed, Danger (has that ever been more appropriate)

Sounds like fuel expansion. Your garage is warmer than the outside temp (or warmer than when you filled the tank) and therefore it needs a way out if the tank is full. My boat did the same thing until I stopped topping it off. Now when the boat gets filled I make sure when the handle clicks off I don’t put anymore gas in it. Mine leaked without even moving it. When you park it you might also try and keep the front of your trailer lower than the rear to get the air in the gas tank toward the transom.

I jack up the tongue on my Predator to stop that problem. It gets the vent where its supposed to be.Before I did that I had the same problem. If I left the front low,It would spew gas once the sun warmed it up.Jacked up the tongue. No more problem.

259 is right about overfilling. I learned that the hard way also. But I have learned how much I can top mine off if I'm going to take it straight to the river and run it a bunch.I'll add some more. But If I'm going to park it or just run a little ways and anchor.I dont top off the tank.

I reread your post. You are talking about something different than what I had going on.Mine was flowing out the filler cap,and running down the rail to the back of the boat.Could yours be doing that? I also had problems with it leaking nto the storage tray through unfinished welds where the cleats were welded on.I also made the mistake of putting my antenae right behind the filler spout.I got both spots sealed off and jack my tongue up and never have a problem now.

This is Just something else to look at.That Ive seen through my experience with our Predator

By the way, mine also vented through the gas cap when I raised it up.

I haven't had a problem since I started opening the filler cap just a little. You just have to remember to close it when you pull the boat out of the garage.
