Elicker tapped for interim ODFW director

SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission today voted unanimously to select Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Deputy Director Roy Elicker as interim director.

The interim director will lead ODFW while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement for departing director Lindsay Ball. Ball's last day with ODFW will be Dec. 30. He is leaving ODFW to become director of the Oregon Department of Administrative Services.

Elicker, 52, has been Deputy Director since 2001. His tenure with ODFW spans back to 1993, when he was hired as a Watershed Health Program Coordinator. Other positions include Fish Screening program manager, Fish Division Deputy Administrator and Legislative Coordinator.

Elicker earned a Master's Degree in wildlife biology from Rutgers University in 1982 and an environmental law degree from Lewis and Clark College Northwest School of Law. He and wife, Bonnie, reside in Portland. They have three sons.

He officially begins his duties Jan. 3. The Commission in January will begin a national search for a new director.

The seven-member Commission is the rulemaking body for fish and wildlife issues in Oregon.
