Pick Only One
Okay you get to use only one rifle and one shotgun for the rest of your life. What caliber and what guage/choke are you going to pick?
Rifle - Remington Model 721 30:06
Shotgun - Remington 870 12 guage modified choke
That just about covers everything for me.

Re: Pick Only One
Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle .270
12 Gauge Benelli Nova
Can't really hit anything consistently with either one but you gotta love it when you can discharge your weapon! Guess its the kid in me.

Re: Pick Only One
If I HAD to pick heres what I'd take.
Win. Model 70 .375 H&H
Benelli Nova 12ga. Modified choke.
I'd take the .375 because I could use it on virtually any game animal on earth. Load it light for Deer or Pronghorns, and still be able to use it in Africa,if I ever wanted to go on a safari.
The 3 1/2" Benelli will cover any wingshooting situation I may find myself in.

Rest of my life eh?Well I guess I'ld stick with what I've been using.Mod.70 Win.7mm rem mag and my old beat to sh@t pardner 12ga mod.
Of course life wouldn't be any fun without a .22LR too.

Re: Pick Only One
Geez...only ONE each, huh?!!
Hmm...a Rem. 700 Stainless/Synthetic in 7mm Mag. (Rem. or Ultramag)
Rem 870 Synthetic 26" w/Choke tubes...if limited to 1 tube, probably "Mod."
It's a good thing I'm NOT limited to one, because while I DO have that shotgun, I don't have the rifle.
My Mod. 700's in .338 Win. and I have other rifles in .270 Win, .25-06 and 7mm Rem.

Re: Pick Only One
Look at all of those Remingtons's. I myself have used a remington pump 300 savage since I was 12, it was my birthday present. Handed down to me by my father and to him by his father. I still use it for deer. If I had only one to choose from:
Browning BAR 7mm *Best shooting rifle I have ever owned*
Shotgun: Remington wingmaster 870 12g with a modified choke.

Re: Pick Only One
Well since you didn't specify that it had to be guns we currently own, I will choose ones that I don't.
.300 Win Mag built by D'Arcy Echols on a pre-64 Model 70 action with a Krieger barrel at 24". I'll top this with a Swarovski 30mm tubed medium variable scope set in Talley mounts.
I'll take a Merkel side by side in 12 gauge for the scattergun.

Re: Pick Only One
Rifle: Ruger M77 international in .308 topped with a 2.5x8 VXIII. There may be a sweeter pointing gun on the planet, but I've never felt it. Wish I had one.
Shotgun: 12 guage Stoeger coach gun--improved next to modified, 20 inch barrels. Really hard on grouse and quail, and it rides really nice in a crowded pickup cab.

#1. Why?
#2. Are you buying? If so a Browning Safari Grade or a Kember Super Americian in 375H&H and a Beretta 687 extra combo 12ga
#3. Out of my present colection? Either my Winchester Clasic SS 375H&H or my Mauser 338-06 and my Ithica 200E 20ga
#4. For turkeys, varmints and other goblins? My L1A1 7.62x51 and my Beretta 1201FP 12ga.

Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 1/2 inch 12 ga & 300 Win Mag Mtn Eagle. That should just about do it for whatever flys or walks in North America except big brown bears.

Re: Pick Only One
Dancing w/ who I brung:
Rem 870 w/ mod choke, 28" barrel and the Rem mod 700 in .270 win.
For sentimental reasons, though, I would like to have a Browning A-5 in 16ga and a german made 8mm Mauser. Just tooooo tough to find ammo on a consistent basis for either.

Re: Pick Only One
Rifle wise, it really don't matter that much. A reliable bolt gun between 7 mag and ending at 340 Wby will fill the bill.
I have a Remington ugly gun( stainless synthetic) in 338.
A Dakota single shot would be my choice for what I want, but don't already have. 30-06 or 300 Holland and Holland would be cool.
12 guage pumpgun. 3" chamber. Set of chokes.
Present unit is a super reliable Mossberg( yeah, it is ugly. But dead ducks don't whine too bad about it) that fits me well.
Life would be pretty intolerable with only one of each. Glad I live in the U.S.A.

Re: Pick Only One
Sorry to repeat Crabbait, but I also would opt for the 30-06 and 12ga in guns I already own:
Browning Abolt Stainless Synthetic w/ Leupold 3-9 - simple, ammo available everywhere, adequate for any game if placement is good (like between the eyes  ). Mine shoots under an inch at 100yds.
Benelli Super Black Eagle with loads of accessories including
1. A defense setup with pistol grip stock, 21" bbl, mag tube extension, and Meprolight bead
2. An upland/turkey setup with 24" bbl
3. A waterfowl setup with 28" bbl and recoil reducer - what I have now.

Re: Pick Only One
1. My 673 Remington in 350 Remington Mag with it's 2.5-10 Vari-X III (I can always get within range)
2. My Remington 870 30" Full
and I'll sneak in my Bushmaster XM-15 for defense of the two-legged type. I would never limit myself to just two weapons, they just don't make a two gun safe and why have empty space!

Re: Pick Only One
tuff one.....
Most likely would be a......
1. Stainless Steel Weatherby Mark V Rifle chambered in the 270 Weatherby Mag with a Leupold LPS 3.5-14x50 power scope with Harris 9-13in bipods.
2. Mossberg 835 28 inch 3 1/2in ported barrel with a Turkey full, improved mod, mod, and IC choke tubes, along with a 24 inch fully rifled slug barrel with tru-glo night sights.
Both proven killers
