Default How do I camo a gun

Can anyone recommend a way to put a Mossy Oak Break-up or Advantage Timber camo pattern on a synthetic stock 223? Are there kits or something out there to make it easier?

I think the professional results are achieved from taking it in to a gun smith who does this kind of work.

I did my own personal camo on my synthetic, came out pretty good i think. It,s like a NW pattern. Just gave it a good sanding and painted a base color of sage green then added a bunch of different stencil images. Some ferns , some maple leaves , some brown twigs, a little white . Make it your own and it is much more satisfying.

I have done a few cammo jobs at home with great results. choose a gray or green base color and then lay fern leaves and cedar sprays, small & large maple leaves or whatever you have in your yard to create the pattern. Just lay them in place and spray a natural color (dark green, brown, tan etc...) of spray paint. Continue this in multiple overlapping layers until you reach the look you are after. You can test your skill on a piece of cardboard for practice. It really works and is fun. I have found that cleaning the stock with steelwool followed by alcohol does a good job for improving adhesion of the paint (particularly on synthetic stocks which often have "mold release" agents from the factory. I have stocks that have seen many seasons of use and still look good. Also if you get a chip or scratch, it simply exposes a new layer of color below and is hardly noticable. Give it a try!

there are some good sticker kits you can get but your gun will rust a little under the sticker so your stuck with stickers or paint forever

Good ol' mil-grade Krylon is what I've used to camo work guns for quite a while. The nice part is you can tailor the colors to suit your hunt area.

If you're looking for a pro job, search Google for gun finishes.

Here's my coyote rifle.

I spent a lot of time trying gun wraps, camo covers that I bought and made myself, and even just trying to cover it with my body in the coyote setup, but finally just gave up and went for it. I'm sooooo glad I did. Now I can just sit it up on my shooting sticks and concentrate on my calling and watching. It just disappears.

If you're interested, I can post the steps.

Awesome gun. What caliber are you shooting and, yes, I am very interested in the steps.

Thanks.

Where do you find the Mil colors?

I have a 1990 Burb with GM paint cancer that I want to camo. I like the thing with the ferns on that gun. I am going to use ferns and leaves to finish of the Burb. Just wet them down and stick them to the surface. After they dry, spray around them and remove.
