Default San Diego in Febuary or Early March

I am hoping some of you Dogs may know if there is any worth while fishing opportunities off San Diego in Feb. or March.
I am going to be there for three or four days during that time and would love to book a good trip with a top skipper in that area.
Unfortunatley I will probably only have one or possibly two days to fish. Any sugestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

That time of year is the Long Range season in SD. The winter months are usually limited to bottom fishing BUT you might keep tabs on things when your trip gets close because you never know. If the squid are showing up so might the yellows around the Coronados or San Clemente Isl and maybe even some other suface actions.

Well rockfish is closed until April so that will be out. Pretty dead unless yt show but a bit early. Can always go down and fish in Mex. waters. Like the poster above said S.C. Island might be the best bet.

I know it isn't very salty, but there are some terrific largemouth bass lakes within an hour of San Diego. Maybe take some freshwater stuff as back-up? Larry

Lordy, that's about the worst time to be in SoCal looking to catch a saltwater fish. Maybe a calico bass or yellowtail bite at san clemente island, but it is a hit or miss proposition. It's a bit too early to be targeting white seabass, but you never know.

I might be able to put this off for a bit. When do things start getting heated up?

Depends on what you want to fish for. You going to fish on a party boat? Best bet might be to wait until June and get on a one day party boat and try for albacore.

I think we are more interested in fishing for something that is not common here off our coast. I can do albie's here so maybe bill fish??
It sort of spoils a person when you have your own boat and can fish here frequently.
We will probably have 5 or 6 people so a good long day trip or possibly an overnighter.
We may be able to switch to the Cabo area but I am not positive of that at this time.

I was down there fishing acouple of months ago. It was a blast. Check out this site, http://www.pointlomasportfishing.com/
I went out with Steve on the Point Loma, Great guy.
One of My best friends used to work on that boat, Steve was his best man. We caught: sea bass, sculpin, Red fish, shark, and halibut during a 2 trip adventure.

An option if you are locked into the time span you posted might be Ensenada. The local boats are OK & they catch quite a few lingcod & an assortment of bottom fish. You might check for Gordo's & see what is going on then. As another poster wrote largemouth bass at Otay, San Vicente, Hodges or El Capitan reservoirs should be good for a possible trophy. The bass should be be moving into the shallows to spawn & the opportunity to catch one 8 lbs. or even bigger exists. If bass fishing is one of your gigs go for it.

Well you can certainly catch rockfish, lingcod and bigger halibut up north so I wouldn't waste my time with that. If you want billfish you'll have to wait until late summer and then that's not a given. You'd be better off going to Cabo. White Seabass is something you don't have but that's a hit or miss fishery. Don't sell the albacore short as you can also run into bluefin.
