Default High Pressure Blues..

With this split in the jet stream and high pressure around us for what looks like the next week or so will put the kybosh on what was shaping up to be a decent duck season. Oh well the dirt is drying out and is good for construction. Any one have a good report on sunshine days and high pressure ducks?

I've had some my best days ever on cold "Bluebird" days. But it has only been on a river during a big freeze when all the ponds and sheet water are frozen.

when it is clear and cold, you have to go to the ducks. blind hunting on a club or refuge could get a little slow.

My dad and I hunt a small pond outside of Silverton, and it is by far better on bluebird days. Both the ducks and geese use the pond more during nice weather.

Depends on the area I guess.

So, you're in a blind with a decoy spread in front of you. The sky is bright blue, the sun is shining brightly and there's no wind. What tactics are gong help increase success? I gues you have to have some birds flying for a slight chance of burning some powder. I've hunted a lot of blue bird days - with minimal success. Any more insight?

Thanks,

CrF

Learn to adapt or stay home and cry. Hunting can be good on clear days.

Two things come to mind, motion and concealment.
Make sure your camo is not washed in Tide, but rather UV kill'n HS camo soap.

Wash your duck camo?

I got 5 birds this bluebird morning before I fell in chasing a pintail drake and had to go home before I became hypothermic. I love high pressure in the valley and pray for it all winter.
