Default hunting on the CR

The bird regs state: To hunt either the Oregon or Washington side of the Columbia River the hunter must have in possesion a license for the side of the river that he/she is hunting.

How do they enforce this rule? if you launch from Oregon and you cross the center line are you then in Washington and have to have a washington license? What if you shoot from the oregon side of the centerline at a duck that just crossed the line? is that illegal???

Just curious becuase i watched a raft of about 100+ ducks float around on the WA side of the river all day sunday couldnt figure out what kind of ducks they were though does anybody have any ideas?

The time in court may not be worth finding out about it. The center of the channel is supposed to be it, whether it was established in 1873 or 2003!?

Chances are the birds you were looking at were bluebills. You must have a the appropriate license to hunt either side of the channel (shipping lane). In many areas this is very close to areas that hold ducks. As long as you are shooting ducks that are physically in OR waters and you are physically in OR waters, you're fine, just don't shoot over the channel. Ducks fly back and forth all day long up and down the river. It doesn't matter where the duck flew from, it matters where it was shot.

be very carfull after researching for a couple years the border is the state line which is defined as center of shipping channel 18?? this can be very deceving in some areas the shipping chanel has moved from one side of the river to the other like baker bay for intence is about half in oregon but 99% of poeple will tell you your in washington. this subject is really tough becaus the law enforcment poeple dont even know the boundry. also you can not land in the other state with your game
