My opinion of Bruntons, is the most overpriced glass for the quality you get.

I have not looked thru the $400 model, but I looked thru a pair of 8 or $900 dollar pair a while back. They were the darkest glass I have ever looked thru was my opinion.

Each person sees something different thru glasses IMO, if they are clear and bright for you, nothing else matters.

I actually feel kinda bad when I go to sportsmans because I hate asking them to take out so many pairs when I know I wont be buying at that exact moment.

Here is what I thought..

As I stood their looking at a whitetail on the wall switching back and forth between the nikon monarch and the brunton it was very clear which ones were sharper as well as taking in more light. The nikon won hands down no contest! I was very impressed with the feel and overall clartity for the price. THe nikon runs around $200 and the Brunton was $450ish. I was looking through the 10x42 models. After asking the sportsmans empolyee to try almost every 10x42 model they had I decided that up to around $500 the Nikon monarch was better than most or atleast the same and a fraction of the prices. As soon as I started getting into the $800+ range of binos, the only think the nikon didnt have was that crisp life like image that Swarovski and leica have. Anyway there is my binoculars review for the year.

Thought I would add, the sportsmans employees was not trying to sell me on the bruntons he said he did not like them as well and that the nikons were simply better.

OH, I forgot exactly what it entails but it seems Nikon has an extremely good warranty!!!!! might wonna check into it!

I just bought a pair of Nikon 12x50's, extremely bright and crisp for under 200.00. They have a 25 year no fault warranty. Hard to beat that.

I have Nikon Monarch they are a good glass for the dollar I would prefer a more expensive pair but I alas I must eat occasionaly. They are a little heavy but they work well up were we hunt Rich the only real problem is that deer do not show up in them elk are fine....

I have a pair of the Brunton Eterna 7X42's. I am VERY happy with them, but I, too only see a slight improvement over the Nikon Monarchs (you can't tell indoors, you need to take them outside!)I bought this pair of Brunton's at wholesale and am not sure that I would buy the same ones if I was paying retail. My next pair will be 10 power for the times that I can hold them steady and either the Nikons or bite the big bullet and do it right: Swarofski's. Dave

Like some others said, each person sees things a little different when they use a pair of binoculars, just find the ones that work best for you. I have been looking for a new pair lately and also have looked at all brands, Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica, even checked out the new Leupold Golden Rings for $999. For me anyway, the best pair I have found and will ask Santa for for Xmas is the Pentax DCF SP's in 10x43. You might check these out, you can get them for around $450 or so on the internet at some places, they are for me the cleanest glass I have used, for me as good as the Swaro EL's - not to say they are as good but for me I didn't see the difference the $1700 Swaro cost. They are highly rated by many on other hunting websites and seem to have a good rep as far as being tough when in use. Just another one to consider.
Thanks
Frank

Oregonmuley,
I have the Pentax binocs you are talking about (DCF SP 10X43) and I love them.. Best Binoc for the price. I hunted elk and deer this year with them, and thought they were great. My buddy has the Swaroskis, and we did a comparison with them, and I got him to admit he could not tell any difference in low light, bright light, or with clarity. Check them out. I purchased mine for $450 and got a $50 dollar rebate. Do your shopping because if you look at Cabelas they are in the $600 range. Other places are the same.

I have $300 Nikon Monarchs (10x42) and so does my Dad. I have the older slightly heavier model and my Dad has the new model. They are hard to beat in the less than $500 range. My father in law has a $280 pair of 10x42 windriver cascades (leupold) and they seem every bit as good as the Nikon Monarchs.

As for Bruntons I dont know. I looked at them in the store and the only thing I liked was the handy flip-open case you can get for them.

I cant tell the taste difference between something cooked by my mother in law and a professional chef. It doesnt mean they taste the same I just cant tell the difference due to lack of developed taste.

I suppose there are those that will say a $200 to $400 pair of japanese glass are just as good as a pair of Swarovskis or Leicas I am not one of them.
