Default Hit by Falling Mallard

Decided to get out this morning and head to the Ocean In the hopes of getting some freh birds brought in by the recent snows.

Duckbrother John went with me and blackdog Alex to hit it.

We were glad when we rolled out of the fog and found a fair breeze down at the Launch.

We made our run in the dark and noticed that a couple of other guys had the same plan, but fortunately our spot was not taken.

The wind kicked up enough for us to get good deke motion, and once again John was lethal with the Red Label.

Alex was a Punk today and at one point crashed through the water, and up onto the shore about 60 yards away, Grabbed the bird and brought it back to a point just across a canal and then dropped it!

So he was testing us a bit, but all in all, 11 Big Mallards fell.

John was nearly killed by the first bird of the day... A big Drake bombing in with wings locked, getting closer and closer until he was nearly too close to shoot.

I fired a single shot and the bird fell and hit john in the lap!

John and I laughed about that for a while, He kept saying that he didn't know if he should block it with his gun stock, or try to catch it like a football.

Mike and Zachariah, We missed having you guys out there today... But glad that the maiden voyage in your new Boat was a good one.

Nice hunt. That's too funny about the bird hitting him, I have been very close myself. I have a goose video where the camera man gets knocked out by a falling goose. Cody

My buddy's dog once picked up a bird and proceeded to chew the crap out of it right accross the irrigation ditch from us. We were 10 yards away...had no way to stop her and she knew it .

Makes me laugh just to think about it...thanks for bringing back the memory... .

Good mallard shoot!!!

Sounds like a great hunt!!!
That gun under your arm looks a little to pretty to be in the swamp!!

I got hit by a Bluebill, a few years back. Bombin' in at warp factor 10....Shot it, at the last second I knew it was going to hit me so I spun around and he hit me SQUA in the back!! It was still harder on that poor bluebill than it was on me, but me friends got a kick out of the blood splatter on my back

I hunt with a Turkish over Under, and Duckbrother John is borrowing my Red Label for this (his first) duckseason.

Those turks know how to build a gun. It spent the night at the bottom of the bay one year, and cleaned up just fine to hunt many more years, it even slid along the roadway for 100 feet or so when the boat flipped on Mary's creek bridge, still hunts great.

both guns are nice, but the bottom line is that they were made to be hunted, and that is what i do with them.

We blast them with wd 40 before and after each hunt. I mean Right after we pull the boat out of the water.

They hold up in the salt much better than the Benellis and Remingtons.

not sure why, but every time a buddy brings an 870 along, it has rust all over it by the end of the day.

must be something in the barrel finish.
