Re: Pictures: Mark Vickers Award Winning Flies!!!
Thanks Dave!
The first fly is the Purple Demon Spey. This is a retie and my personal feeling is that this one is nowhere near as good as the original.
The second was just a fly I threw in as a present for you for taking the photos. It is a classic Atlantic Salmon fly called a Bluebell. With the exception of the junglecock and the golden pheasant toppings, the whole fly is made with macaw feathers. I'll point out that the junglecock is tied in wrong through. It should go up with the wings, not dropped down.
The third is one of my personal favorites to tie. This is a steelhead akroyd. This is a Dee wing. It takes about an hour to tie one.
The final one is a juicy bug. This one is fun and easy to tie. I actually use this one a lot to fish with, but sans the junglecock. You'll notice the fly's split wings in the photo below it.

Re: Pictures: Mark Vickers Award Winning Flies!!!
Very cool Mark!
I just aquired a fist full of scarlet macaw tailfeathers and another whole bag of various body feather for free. I'll have see if I can do them justice like your Bluebell.

Nice ties Mark. I have always been impressed with the quality of the flies you have tied for the swaps.

Re: Pictures: Mark Vickers Award Winning Flies!!!
Thank you all for the kind words. But... There are far better tiers on this board than I. They just didn't enter flies into the contest.
That said, I do really enjoy tying flies. In fact, sometimes I actually enjoy tying more than I enjoy fishing (which sounds peculiar indeed). I like sitting down in the evening after gruesome days at work (which happen exceedingly often) and spending an hour fiddling with an intricate pattern. When I'm done, I pull it off the vice, critique it, and then a few days later, break it off on a limb or rock on the Sandy. If you fish the Sandy between Oxbow and Dabney much and you find a Dee or a Glasso style spey, it is more than likely one of mine.

Beautiful flies Mark. You've got a good eye for tying. I really liked the low-water skunk you did for the steelhead swap a while back.

Nice flies mark. I think you need to go tie 144 of them too, for the Mega steelhead fly swap. The largest swap in North America. Maybe the world!

The Singapore Zoo has them out front. You've got to sneak up behind them though. Also you need to get out of there quick because they cane you if they catch you
