Hunting Slang Words
Just wondering if there are as many as in fishing. I'll start with smoke pole and fire stick. What others are there?

Re: Hunting Slang Words
In waterfowl hunting, how about when we call a flurry of shots a "go". We had three "goes" today and got 6 birds. I'm sure there's alot more.

Re: Hunting Slang Words
Right through the "boiler room",= good kill shot. Sage rat that is head shot but just barely skimmed the top so it starts jumping around,= "break dancer" but only if it gets a full foot of air under it while bouncing. Nice 4 point "if you roll it over". Geeze it had to be be a "Royal bull", = he was shootin at a tangle of vine maple. Need to "Make a deposit" = visit the outhouse.

A sage rat head-shot just right does the "back-flip boogie".
Magpie aka Holstein pheasant
Coyote aka yodle dog
Chukar are often found on hillsides "steeper than a cow's face when she's feeding".
"Walking death"= a good shot.

Re: Hunting Slang Words
how about,
Camp meat, I can't say
Road Spike, The young first year buck that doesn't know to flee hunters driving by. Sometimes also called camp meat.
My favorite is "Boulder Hunting" A method of hunting deer during the hot time of day when animals are bedded. Overlooking a sparse clearcut you roll boulders off high points where they roll crashing down the canyon. All deer in the area jump out of there beds thus giving you a shot. Only done where legal , of course

Re: Hunting Slang Words
How about:
Mongolian Mallard (Rooster Ringneck)
Prairie Carp (Grouse)
Ground Pound (shot on the ground)
Hellicopter (Wings out spiral fall)
Folded (Wings in tight fall like a brick)
Rocked (hit hard)
Puffed (a lot of feathers in the air)
Let the air out of (killed)
Buzz Bombs (Quail)
Red Feet (Doves)
Huns (Grey Grouse)
A few that I hadn't heard yet.
