Default Clack report & rod holder question 1-23-04

Friday 1-23-04 Drbfish & I took my DB down the Clack above Barton. We put in fairly clear water with river levels at 12.5 (estacada) by the time we pulled out at Barton the water had jumped to 16+ !!! Holy cow, you could literally feel the water level raise & get colder! It was a tough wet float. FYI: This drift has changed QUITE A BIT from last year! The big L elbow bend past "the mine field" has a huge tree right in the middle! That's a very fast tight turn to begin with. Fortunately, drbfish noticed it as we were setting up for the run. Eeeeks. Be careful. There were a few white knucklers near the new and improved bonnie lure strech. Dispite the HUGE water level spike, I had a nice quick tug. Later in the run near Barton I hooked and landed a beautiful yellow native. Probably 2 pounds in all 16 inch glory!
THE QUESTION PORTION: How have you mounted your rod holders in your drift boat? Do you have sometype of rod holders? I know the clackacraft has the built in rod runner tube in the hull but what about for a Spey Rod? Do you lay yours down, point it straight up, off the back of the boat??? Pics? The reason I ask is just as we were rowing back into the d@MN boat launch, my spey rod got caught on the rocks and "snap" off the tip section went! Whaaaah. Does anyone make a design or bracket/ mounts to hold larger rods in the drift boat?

Once again, be very careful above bonnie this winter as quite a bit has changed!

I guarantee you that tree, if you are talking about the "Minefield" at McIver is looong gone now. 11,000cfs and still going up, it's probably in the CR by now.
I'm guessing you haven't floated that in a few years because the changes I've noticed, at least post 96' are subtle, yet still intriguing.
The coolest stuff is going on around Bonnie, the "NEW" creek mouth and keep an eye on that far left channel, neat stuff going on there too.
I can't wait to get down there at lower flows again to see what the river did on this last flush.
What other part was the "white knuckler"???
I suppose if you took the wrong channel a bit below Feldheimer you might get spooked a bit.
If you really wanna have fun, try upper McIver to Barton at 20,000 cfs. Slow fishing but a fun ride.....
