Default 1st Season Coast Range Bull

I'm posting this picture for a friend who doesn't have access to ifish but visits the site all the time. This bull was killed by one of his friends on the first day of the first bull elk season in the Siuslaw unit.

It's a 7x7 with devil tines making it an 8x8. I do not have a score for it, but I would imagine that it should go 280+ just from some sheds I have and judging the mass, etc.

A very nice looking bull for sure; sad thing is I had the opportunity to hunt the area where this guy got the bull and I opted not to

There's always next year......

From the land of Big Sticks,

Osulogger

WOW, That sure is a dandy rosie!!!
Gotta love the crowns on big coast bulls.

The guy must kill big bulls, cause that one would have been a shoulder mount for sure if it were me!! (looks like he didnt cape it out)

Great Bull.

Was it a bull caught off guard in the early season or was he where he wanted to be hidding out in the thickest of the thickets.

Thanks for the inspiring photo.

Sweet rack, nice character. The Suisilaw unit is either straight up and down or extremly brushy from what I know of it...oh and littered with ELK!!

That is a nice bull. That full camo with the black face circle, probably helps to sneak up on them

the bull was shot on private property with full permission. That bull hasn't been seen since early last year so its not like it was tame or someones pet. The guy in the picture is a good hunter none-the-less. He had been hitting the brush the first two days of season in some pretty nasty country searching for this heard, then on the third morning they showed up across from his house. It was a fluke he even seen them as it was still dark and he was heading to the hills to hit the brush again. He figured out a plan as this field is rather huge. not easy to sneak up on them.even at 300 yrds.(he shot it much closer). alot of guys here are jealous, but thats just because they dont have that opportunity. His family homesteaded the area and even have their own cemetery.I am very happy for him. No, it is not shouldermounting the bull(9 out of 10 would). He did tell me he is having a european mount done though. Perhaps if he had shot it in the brush maybe he would have caped it. He is very humble about the situation.

This bull is a true trophy. I did wonder why they blacked out his face and his plates on his truck when the photos were first posted. Innocent until proven guilty

Let me clear the record on why I blacked out his face and plates. First off, I didn't have this man's permission to be posting his picture all over the internet. I did it as a common courtesy for him. Second, I blacked out his pickup license because again I don't feel it was necessary to have his plates broadcast all over the internet. After talking with the friend who wanted me to post the pictures, we felt it was fine to show the hunter so he could be admired for what he did.... boy were we wrong

I think this is justifible, if it's not I'm sorry. If the kid did something wrong, which I have no clue if he did or not, sucks to be him. It's still a nice bull and that is the reason why I posted the pictures online.

By the end of the week I am going to pull the pictures because it's been a big fiasco since the get-go. Animals should be viewed for what they are, not who the person that took them is. If this was a poached animal, I fully agree that the picture should not be on the internet.

Earlybird007 and I have talked about this and I know where it all stands now. What's done is done, and we'll see what the entire outcome of this will be.

From the land of Big Sticks,

This post has turned into a soap opera with some harsh accusations. The bull is a monster and great to look at, but I would suggest you remove the pics. "Friendships" could be lost over stuff like this.

For the dude in the pictures sake, I hope the bull was killed ethically. If not this post has lead to some information that the state would love to see.

I applaud you for stepping forward with the information, it may just be accusations, but I feel it puts an * on this hunter. If they want to come forward and argue their case, have at it. I'm sure OSP would welcome a statement. It seems to me over the years, big bulls in farmer fields just end up being trouble.

To put the record straight, I asked OSUlogger to post the pics so that everyone could admire the bull, not glorify the hunter. The hunter is a friend of mine as is earlybird and everyone has the right to their opinion. I haven't read the posts that earlybird deleted so I too am not sure what the fuss was all about. The hunters father works for the farmer and they had full permission to hunt the bull. The hunter was a little embarrassed about what everyone would think about shooting the bull in the field so he only included the last part of the story where he killed it in the timber which is where it ran to after he put one into it. Of course all the locals new better, so it was a mistake on his part. I went and talked to him and he told me the whole story. I personally, would shoot an animal in a field if I had permisssion as well. The hunter is not a trophy hunter and would have shot it even if it were a spike.note: he didnt cape it. If here were a trophy hunter, he would have caped it, the bull score clears 300 which is rare around here or anywhere for Roseys. This bull DOES NOT deserve an * next to it and I stand by my word on it. HE made no effort to hide the bull, or the fact that he shot it, and he even talked to the old boy who lives on the farmers property before he made the hunt with hhis father.

I've been following this from the start, what a great bull! I would give my left, anyway's, if the guy had permission and everything was done according to the law why give a hoooot where it was taken, does anyone recall the Willamette bull taken last year in the Farmers Field that couldn't be reconignzed due to supposedly not being legit according to B&C. Who cares as long as it is legal!!!!!! Great bull !! Someone step up a prove that it is otherwise and then maybe the slander will stop.

jmh,

Glad to see you made it on here. I was suprised to see this thread all the way at the top when I got home from work. I talked with RK a couple of weeks ago and he was all hopped up about how there was a sweet bull killed on his property; I never doubted the story, it was just nice to hear it from the landowner that it was true as well.

To everyone else out there that bashed his bull, and you know you who you are; I think you owe this guy an apology.

JMH,
Your allright in my book. Great job!!! I hope you continue to have great success as I know you will. You hunt as hard as everyone and deserved this opportunity as much as anyone else. I ran in to Tommy in the woods the other day. He showed me the pics of the monster he killed two years ago. I looks like a twin to yours. Have you seen his bull. It had the same horn configuration as yours. Same bloodline?? Just a tad smaller. You outdid your bro this year, so next year it's on huh?
