Re: goose loads
I like #2 Hevi-shot. Not sure of FPS, but,I THINK it's in the neighborhood of 1200.

Re: goose loads
I agree wil elkslayer.....even 2 shot Kent Does the job. But I do use BB more than 2 shot for geese.

Re: goose loads
I shoot the high speed federals in BB as a backup to #2 heavishot or tungsten bismuth loads. They both seem to fold geese up pretty well.

Re: goose loads
heavy shot works great and if you have the bank roll go for it but for a poor college kid like myself i would say stick the federal speed shock BB it has 1550 fps and is what i think the perfect load for geese now i am shootin 3 1/2. for just a few bucks more you can get the hevi-steel in 3 inch BB and it has the same fps but a little more weight behind it. good luck, have a great hunt

Re: goose loads
I would reccommend steel #1 shot, no less than 1 1/4 oz. and shoot the head...not the body.
Kill rate up...cripple rate down.

Re: goose loads
You have good luck with Hevi-steel, Dave? I tried some on Sunday, didn't seem any better than regular high-velocity steel. But all but one of my birds was "up close and personal". My personal jury is still out on whether the extra 3-5 bucks is worth it.

Re: goose loads
I would get Kent 3" BB, or any steal BB at 1500 fps or more. That is what I use and it really folds em up. But like Jon said, shoot them in the head. I haven't noticed a big difference between regular steel and heavy steel, but not many would know better than Dave on the performance of shells on geese. Good luck, Cody

Re: goose loads
I went with KENT 3" BB at 1560fps. It was 2 buck a box off at Bi-Mart. Thanks for your help!

Yep, 50 yards or under and the goose is dead! I totally agree. Kris.

Re: goose loads
I've never had anything pattern better from my shotgun than 3" BBB steel. Higher the velocity the better

Re: goose loads
Kent Fasteel 3" #2, 1550 fps, 1st barrel, BB's behind.
Smoked a pair of Westerns last Wednesday at 40 and 45 yds.
All you need for tav's and cacks.
I would shoot Hevi shot #4 if they were all Big geese.

Re: goose loads
Gun Rod Bow, is on the money. I use Kent 3" #2s for everything. Get em in your face where they belong and even the big heavies fold...

Re: goose loads
Kent #2s - more pellets on target - smaller diameter penetrates better, hi-vel keeps energy up a bit - like LickSkillet said -- down & dirty & shoot them in the lips..
I like the 3 1/2" #2s- newer 1625 fps 1 1/4oz is s-u-w-e-e-t

Re: goose loads
On my last trip to Canada I mistakenly put a case of 1 1/16 ounce #4's, 2 3/4" shells in the truck. Absolutely crushed birds, canadas, specks, and greenheads.
You don't need fancy shot, fast shot, 3" or 3.5" shells. Jusy shoot them at 30 yards and under. I don't spend more than $7/box. Save up your money and buy more decoys.
