Default Topo Map Software

Any opinions on this?
I'm looking at the National Geographic one but wonder what the differences are in resolution/quality when you go with either the western Oregon, whole state, or whole region version.

Any other preffered brand/version?

Jimmy...have you looked at the one running at the GI Joes in Delta Park? I think it might be the National Geographic one. It is free to play with. It is next to the registers over by the coffee shop. I have heard some good things about TopoUSA, but have not personally seen it.

I would guess that the region/western oregon etc...are all going to be the same resolution and detail. You just pay more for increased coverage. I would recommend going with more area coverage as western Oregon will not be enough...soon enough you will want to use your topo to figure out where BOE is hunting. Then of course our of state info is great too.

I use several, Topo USA, Terrrain Navigator, and Mapsource. All three provide differing levels of details and support. Mapsource does downloads of topo detail to my garmin GPS. Topo will work with the GPS and show me real time where I am at on the computer screen, Terrain Nav...well it is spending but the maps show some details that the other two do not.

I've had the National Geographic for several years. Been quite happy with it. Go for the whole state, you will end up using it. 8 cd disc set.

I've been using DeLorme software (topoUSA)for years. I'd consider at least looking into it.

Here's a link... web page

Try and find the Map-Tech brand I think you will be very happy with it. With it you can look at an area from ground level to an elevated view at your control. You can also look at a 3-D view of an area or a whole mountain and you can twist the area around. Also you can change the color of the area your looking at which will help you find flats or wholes you didn't know were there. I have one for the state of Idaho and just love it, it really helps out.
If you are really hung up on National Geographic and are looking for the State of Oregon let me know I would be willing to sell mine. I never discovewred the Map Tech until after I bought the N.G.. E-mail me if interested.
