Default Duck Dog Camo

Is it for flotation, camo, brest and belly protection or to keep them warm after a few dips in the frigid pond? For duck hunting what do you recommend for your dog.

The answer is yes. Vests are made for all of the above. Some designs are more for one or the other. You can get extra think neoprene for more warmth, chest plates made of think rubber, or even ones with floats on the side for those long retrieves. I think it all depends on what dog you are using and in what type of hunting. Personally, my dog hates his. He will roll around until the velcro comes undone.

I am on my second vest for my CLF. The first one had the 'rubberized' chest protector. It was too stiff and ultimately ripped out because it wouldn't flex. I just got her a new Cabela's vest.

Unlike, Duckenfuss' dog, mine at least pretends to like hers. When fitting her new vest, after it was on she ran over and grabbed her ball for a little fetch. Think she knows what the vest means?

Keep in mind a vest needs to be properly fitted as you don't want to create rub rashes or potentially have the dog get hung up on a snag while swimming or running.

One thing I'd recommend with these vests. . .

Have a sewing machine and a pair of sharp scissors handy. Of the vests I've picked up, I've never found one that fit the dog well. So. . .a little snip here and sew there and you'll have one that fits well. This is important. If the vest is tight in certain places or ill-fitting, it can rub and wreak havoc on your dog.
