Default Canvas Wall Tents

I'm going to purchase a wall tent for next year's deer/elk seasons. I have checked out a few websites etc. and like the combo packages that kwikkamp offers. If anyone has opinions on better manufacturers/fabric/size/stove etc. I would appreciate the info. Thanks for the help

Beckel Canvas Products in SE Portland. They custom build to your requirements and have any option you need. They are not the least expensive, but there service is great and they stand behind their product. You should only need one of these tents in a lifetime if it is taken care of properly.

I guess I shouldn't have said "canvas" but just wall tent. I checked out some past threads and got some more help but any more info is appreciated. I will check out Beckel and Reliable.

Check out bravomfg.com , Bravo Tents is in the Vancouver area and has quality tents. They also make very cool custom options for your tent.

A close family friend has 3 wall tents from Beckel. 2 are 60+ years old and in perfect condition. Take care of them and they will last forever.

Lots of tent opinions out there. here are my thoughts.

If you like the Quick Camp tent, check out a place called Raineer Industries (pretty sure of the name) in Washington, They make the quick camp tents for them, and sell tents in a couple sizes for less money than Quick camp. You have to select from like three sizes and you get the stove jack etc. where they put it.

I bought a 14 x 18 wall tent having never stayed in one before. I bought a salem tent and awning tent in the polaris material. It is half polyester and half cotton, a little heavier than cotton but a lot more burn proof. The selling point was when they took a sample of each material and layed a burning paper match on the material and the cotton went up in flames and the Polaris left a little black mark after the match burned up. I was really concerned with the tent burning on me, as I have heard a lot of stories about them catching on fire.

After having stayed in several wall tents now, I would definately get the stove pipe out the side, no problem on getting the stove to vent with a little less vertical stove pipe. Each roof stove jack I have seen, has burn holes around the stove jack, from when somebody kicked the stove, or added wood to the stove and a bunch of embers went up the chimney and then fell back down on the tent.

If I had do it over again I would buy the evolution material. Cost more but is lighter and has better insulation properties. Very nice tent material.

My hunting partner has a quick camp tent and frame, and it is pretty nice.

I built a 1 inch emt conduit frame, and wish I would have gone with aluminum frame. My frame with an 8 foot porch weighs about 200lbs which is to much to lug around. Skip the porch and just get the aluminum frame, your back will thank you.

I went the other way. I bought a shelter from Western Shelter Systems, the kind the forest service uses to set up fire camps.

It's basically an eight-sided yurt that's 16 ft in diameter with 6 ft walls. It has four screened windows and a real door. The frame is aluminum and folds out like an umbrella. The skin comes in three sections and is space-age material. You can even put it away wet if you're lazy.

The best part is my wife and I can set it up in about 20 minutes. In addition, the yurt design sheds wind and water slicker'n a whistle.

I've used mine for about 10 years and it's like new other than a few stains.

I bought a 15X18 tent from kwikcamp back in 1997, couldn't be happier. I've used it up to 3 weeks a year since buying it, still as good as new. I just make sure I don't put it away wet!

I have a 15x21 Beckel Canvas wall tent. I have 4 extended trips in it now and have no complaints. It is awesome. I have a Cylinder Stove (outfitter size) and it really makes the tent warm. I went to Montana this year and it was cold outside. That tent really did the job. The people at Beckel's were great. I had one thing that I needed fixed (my fault) and they didn't bat an eye. Sewed it right up. Next time I won't let Hercules try to "tighten it up a bit."

I believe that Salem Tent & Awning makes nice tents. You can buy the Kwikcamp frame separately and use emt conduit for the frame. If you buy local, and have a problem, a lot easier to take back?

I'm with Nerta.
Canvas cabins I believe they are in Estacada and at the sports show in Portland.
We've used them on elk hunts in Idaho several years and have had up to 2 feet of snow come down overnight with no problem.
They sew down the eaves so water runs off and doesn't collect in the seam. They sew down the bottom seams for the same reason. The smoke pipe hole is in the wall. Lots of sod cloth. Velcro closures where the ridge pole goes thru. Doors are on a bias so they open and close ez. Double loops for pegs at the corners. Loops for pulling as well as the pegs. Bungees to pull the top tight taking wrinkles out of the ridge. These are all features I would look for in a tent. They weigh about 62# in the 12x16.
Not your basic backpacker model.
We built our frame from plans from them using 4" plastic irrigation pipe for joints with 4" aluminium irrigation pipe for the ridge and eave poles.
Enjoy

I have a Canvas Cabin which I like very much. One correction to an above post, Canvas Cabin is located near Newberg and Dennis (owner) is great to work with.
