Typing what we mean...
Years ago, while taking a night class, I had a college professor teach me something that I thought was pretty interesting. It had to do with trying to relay what you mean into type print. Unlike talking, it's hard to emphasize things in print. This was his example. I'll repeat a sentence, but each time I'll "emphasize" one word. This word should be spoken with more emphasis than the others. Let's try it.
"I" never said he stole that bike.
I "never" said he stole that bike.
I never "said" he stole that bike.
I never said "he" stole that bike.
I never said he "stole" that bike.
I never said he stole "that" bike.
I never said he stole that "bike".
There you go. The same sentence, with 7 completely different meanings. Nuts huh?
The challenge is not only to 'write' what you mean, but to try and 'read' what someone else writes, in the way that they want you to read it. Kinda like when someone types in all caps. IT MAKES IT APPEAR AS IF THEY'RE MAD!
I dunno, I'm tired and probably just need some sleep.
ZZzzzz
