Danner boot repair-update
I have a pair of Danner boots with the air-bob sole that has just started to delaminate. Danner wants $75 to resole and the soles are in excellent shape (aside from the delamination). I don't want to start a Danner debate (I know many people, like myself, aren't entirly enamored with the quality), I just want to know if there's a good boot/shoe repair company on the west side (Beaverton/Tigard area) that can pull apart and reglue the soles and possibly do some restiching in other areas as well. I do get to the eastside a fair amount for work so someplace over there might work as well.
Thanks,
Biederboat

Re: Danner boot repair-update
I just found a place in N. Portland that will do my Danners for $42. He said it would take about an hour. My soles haven't peeled, they're just worn out.
What I really need is somebody other than Danner to put a new Gore-tex bootie in. Mine have been seeping for a while and it's getting rather tiresome.

Re: Danner boot repair-update
1pump,
My fallback position is to take them to some guy in Tillamook where my brother lives, this guy has to work on all the logger's boots so he MUST be good. If I remember, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Re: Danner boot repair-update
HDD, mine did that a while back on the heel and I did as you described, held okay. Now it's in the midsold and front. Did yours come apart that much?
Thanks,

Re: Danner boot repair-update
I took them into Vanek's, only $30 to reglue the soles and made a new "wedge" that had shrunk a bit, looks like I got them too close to the woodstove. I used them yesterday scouting for my son's elk hunt, they feel fine. I did have them restitch the heel cup (the back piece that goes from top to bottom) as it had unstitched about 2" up from the heel. They sewed through the gortex liner, which I had concerns about, but they said it would be fine (I'm still concerned!). Overall, as long as it doens't leak, they did a fine job.

Re: Danner boot repair-update
bb mine came apart from the front back about three inches. I also took mine in to get them stiched up in a few places. The gal that done it told me the bootie in them was torn so keep them well gresed.I like the kind with the bees wax in it.So far so good but i have never put them to the test only snow and they stay dry. hd

Re: Danner boot repair-update
Danners will tell you to NOT use heat to dry their boots. It will delaminate them every time... Try a boot dryer with only forced air. I wear an outfitter boot at work, and the soles don't last, but the boots do. I am in the rain all winter, and in the brush, and on pavement. I love my Danners!!!!

Re: Danner boot repair-update
Regarding drying wet boots. This may be common knowledge, if so, just ignore it. I read something several years ago about using wadded up newspaper for drying boots. It works great, and quick. I just wad up about three of four sheets and force them down into the boots. About an hour later do it again. After the second treatment, they are pretty well dry to the touch. The newspaper really draws out the moisture.

Re: Danner boot repair-update
I've heard about that many times, have to admit I never tried it. But I will now! Actually, hopefully my Gortex liners still work and I won't have too...
