Default saltwater vs standard merc motors

does anyone know the difference between merc saltwater or their standard outboard motors?

not exactly sure...their website should explain...my Evinrude SW edition has something like 14 differences, mostly like paint, ss steering arm, water pump, drive shaft ...pretty significant considering it was only a couple hundred or so more $$$...i'd recommend it, even it it doesn't gey much saly use

I checked their web site and it didn't have any info, so I'm just wondering if there are any major differences

I think the only REAL difference is that there is a hose-fitting/flush port on the front of the motor, so you can flush it with fresh water even when it's IN the salt.

Why don't ya ask Boat Doc'? He's THE merc man. We researched it some on my dads 150 Merc (1996), and there wasn't a whole lot of differences if I recall.

I believe from what I've seen here previously is that the SW version interior water passages metal has had some sort of anti-corrosion treatment applied when the motor was manufactured.
