Default Non-Toxic shot and older shotguns

I don't know anything about non-toxic shot (except that it’s over priced) and would like to start bird hunting again. Is there anything that will work in older shotguns that would be legal to use on wildlife refuges that require non-toxic shot?

Bismuth. Everything else that I know of is too hard for older shotguns (especially the older double guns).

If you are waterfowling you are probably better off buying a modern firearm desogned for steel (and the other alternatives like Hevi-shot).

For upland, I would say make the investment in Bismuth and keep those old firearms in the field where they were meant to be. I don't fire so many rounds while upland hunting to break the bank buying Bismuth.

Just upland game, I have no interest in hunting water foul.

Need a job to get a new shotgun, the one I want runs around $1200+.

I guess I could use my Beretta 1201 FP  but I'd look like Rambo and the sights get in the way.

Thanks for the info.
