Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
Many of us would love to see MLB come to Portland. It would be a big boost to the local economy as well.
But until a top notch major league facility is actually built, including luxury suites, and a collapsible roof like Safeco Field, it's just a pipe dream.
Like they said in the movie: "Build it and they will come!"

MLB in Portland would be fine, just leave the funding up to private investors, please.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
If private investors want to foot the bill then let the show begin. I personaly would not go to any games, but it could have some economic benefit. I just don't want to see a dime of taxpayer money involved. The taxpayer always gets shafted in these deals. I wonder how much money has already been spent in Portland for previous feasibility studies and all the other hogwash and endless meetings when they tried to get a team before.
But if people want to see MLB in Oregon then they would probably have the best chance by getting the whole state together rather than just one city. Locate the facilities somewhere between Salem and Portland. Call the team the Oregon Territory.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
Until Portland can support its own AAA team, no way is or should it get a major league team IMO. Go to a Beavers game - 2,000 - 3,000 folks - for guys who are just below the majors and regularly called up there. I don't get it. Most any other minor league team will draw at least this many. Heck, how many do the Volcanoes get regularly? 1,000 people? And that is A ball - just out of high school/college?!
It would be nice to have an MLB team, but just don't tax me for it! I would go to games and support the team some, but I really don't think it would make it.
Also had a close friend who did the feasibility the first time up here - He called me and said "No Way" - NHL team would do better there than a MLB team.
Just my thoughts...

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
I'm a baseball fan and would love to see some games. Now that I live across the river I am all for a taxpayer funded stadium. Oregonians foot the bill and I can go see the games.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
I would like to have a MLB team here, even though I will never stray from my Mets. Here is what needs to happen:
1. Get rid of all Paul Allen PDX influence.
2. Send Trailblazers to Canada or Seattle(nevermind, they have a team...just send them somewhere else).
3. Demolish Rose Garden, build parking lot.
4. Build a nice Camden Yards-type of park next to parking lot/former Rose Garden.
5. Profit.
Same goes for an NHL team, only:
See 1-3, replace item 4 with a good indoor arena and ice.
Problem solved.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
As I would be in line for season ticket, wifes request (LUCKY ME), I still se this market as bust for MLB. There just isn't the base of fans that would come out for 81 games. Can you say Rose Garden, bankrupt, PGE (what a joke) Park, bankrupt, and this time not only would the poor people of Portland be picking up another tab they would get revenue from all the surrounding areas to finance something that would never survive.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
I would also be in line to get season tickets. I take my family up to seattle 3-4 weekends per season to watch good baseball.(lately the good hasn't been the mariners)We go to many Beaver games during the week through out the season. My kids love baseball and if the tradition starts in portland it will stay in portland and do very well.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
I love PGE park, aside from the lack of outfield seating. I try to make it out for as many Thursday games as I can. I really think it would work, having the Marlins or whomever here, given that the town could come up with a nice compromise between hometown class and a park suitable for a major league team.

Re: PDX MLB baseball......again??
Comparing minor league ball to a MLB crowd is insane. I love major league baseball and would seriously consider season tix.(As of now I've seen maybe 5 games in the last 5 years on minors.) Big name players bring in the fans. There's not a lot of draw for some team from Edmonton with 9 guys you never heard of.
Can you imagine the Red Sox coming to play in Portland against the Portland Chinook(fiction team) the place would be sold out in a heart beat. Yankee's, Dodgers, Cubs......it would be awesome.
I could see a nice Portland/Seattle rivalry to spice things up a bit!!
