Default anyone see that shark tourny.. on OLN today

Wow talk about a seriouse rush!! I dont know that I agree with it all since the population of mako sharks and other large sharks is stable but I dont know if it needs to be harvested . But man alive what a deal!! they totaly bent that gaff hook like it was nothing .

and that guy that fought that shark with his drag torched at 49 ft pounds of pressure for 30 min!!! you talk about some burning arms and a sore back I dont know that a guy could even pull that off of the reel if he tried if you did it without gloves I am certain that heavy mono would cut the life out of your hands
but like it or not it was pretty cool to see those dudes get excited for a seriouse adrenaline rush. and that 30 min fight at 49 pounds was amazing to hear.

so who wants to set up a team I would in for sure!

Its the fishing the four tournaments that makes it impractible for us up here. Unless of course it was a tournament up here. What say ye! shark Tournament for food! Now now all those that dont like the killing of the big ones calm down. Just dont participate. Should I or should I not push the continue button?..................Look I would fish it if it came and would have fun at it but am not sure one of those big guys woulod fit on the back of my boat. Of course there is always the cabin!

I dont think we have the numbers of big sharks up here like they do down south? I have never relay paid much attention though but I dont recall seeing any 700 pound sharks from up here lately??

It would be fun to maybe do a tuna tourney. I have a friend that used to do some tuna runs down south and he loved it!! I know there are some seriouse tuna guys on here. It would be expensive to do it but if you got a 4 or 5 man team and diveided it up to say a grand each you could probably come close for a 2 day tourney?? I know I would be intersted if the cost was around a grand a piece for a trip like that? and the pressure of performing in a tourney like that would be great! coming into the docks with a heavy boat would be a great feeling.

700 lb is tiny the great white calls the oregon coast home but they are our freinds cause they feed on seals and an occational cool water surfer or two. the great white hunts along rocky coves and is thought to have a large population along the central coast-sea lion cave area.

What a thrill to watch Mako Hunters at work. We do get the Mako's visit us with tuna schools. Kendall hooked a couple hundred pound one this season but found out the hard way about the need for long wire leaders or lack there of.
I thought best quote was most guys when they bring large Mako to boat are afraid to gaff while green. Mako's always save some energy for final fight at boat.
How many of us could sink that first gaff into 500lb. monster and try and bring on board?

I'd fish for Great Whites everyday if we were allowed to use live seals as bait!

as long as your the bait guy I would be down. getting the seal to lay still while you sink a giant hook and cable to it might be tricky

Not sure where anyone got this Idea, I just cannot let this misconception go by. Most shark populations worldwide are being decamated. The largerst source goes to shark finning for shark fin soup. The sheer volume of shark sightings for me in my past 25 years of diving fishing is proof enough to know most sharks are in real trouble. There are exceptions but most folks who actually boat a shark do not eat them. This is a waste pure and simple. If you catch it eat it or let it go. Its a rule to live by no matter what the prey. These macho shark shows are not helping the shark poulation any. I'll step off the soap box . Mark

I am not disagreeing with you whaler man but in this case all the meat was donated to a good cause. They said where it went but I can't remember. At least non of the sharks in this tourney went to waste.
