Re: T A meeting
Duckwheat,
It's a TunaHolics Anonymous meeting, and we hold 'em ever so often to act as a support group for each other's Total Tuna Addiction! We even have our own 12-Step Program.
It's all in fun, and really it's just an off-season chance to get together and share tips and techniques and rigging. Lots of fun and there's no cover charge. Just don't blame us if you run out and buy a 50K boat!

Thanks guys. Any good resources to learn a little bit more about fishing for them? I live in Idaho. Just got a boat that I plan to come over and fish a bit this summer.

Re: T A meeting
Idaho? Heck, that's practically in our back yard! One of our favorite Addicts is in Pocatello, and he's been known to drive over, throw the boat in the water, and head west 'til he finds fish.
Where in Idaho are you?

Make SURE you have all the safety equipment needed for Offshore fishing, you may end up 70+ miles out hunting for them and need to be prepared cause it's a long way back if something goes wrong.
GPS
VHF
Flare kits
Class 1 PFD's
and enough gas to have at least 1/3 rd tank left when you hit dockside

I am in Boise. I have fished the last two summers out of Port hardy, BC for salmon and halibut. Would like to figure out how to fish the Oregon coast. We have spent some time over there and gone out on a few day trips. Very pretty spot and lot's of fun.

I just spilled some tea leaves.....I am beginning to see something....it is Duckwheat....he is...he is in a car...no, no... a truck...he is driving with Chris, the I.D.Painter....they are pulling an all-nighter, trying to get to Depoe Bay by 5 am.....
Seriously Dave, what are you doing on February 18th? Come on out to Newport for the annual TA Convention. This is the holy grail of NW sicko tuna angler meetings.....a whole day of tuna-enabling lectures, gear (& story) swapping.....

Ehy nice to hear someone else fishes the coast from here in ID. We were just in Pocatello for the Football Playoffs.
I'd like to pick your mind about fishing over on the coast?
My home phone is 208-658-6139. Or give me a good time and I will call you.
The Tuna thing is really intriguing.

Re: T A meeting
Heck Duck a mere 9 hours and you could be fishing. I drive 5 and a half from here in washington. If you leave by 5pm on friday then you could be there in time to get out there. Fish all day. Cark all night. get back in the boat and do it all over again. Then drive home and take the next week off to recover. You might want to come on over and hitch a ride with one of the guys and see if you like it. Or (not to flagrantly promote my videos but......) you could also watch a couple of my videos to get a taste. Just click on the link below my logo.

Re: T A meeting
Don't do it.
I used to live over there In Chris's neighborhood. Now I am a hopeless adict. The dark side os too strong. Go rabit hunting and leave the long fin alone. What ever you do, CO NOT COME TO THE TA Convention! Just don't do it.
You could wind up like me.... hocking everything for another Tuna rod and reel, another piece of boat jewlery.... oh, that is after you buy the boat... a truck to pull it with... a bigger boat... a bigger truck to pull it with.... this cycle has no end. Turn back now and don't say I didn't warn you.
If you still want to come I'd be happy to buy you an adult beverage and maybe even welcome you aboard the Sea Lion. I have Family that comes from Boise every year to Halibut and Tuna fish with me. You might even be able to car pool.
Be warned.... that guy even sleeps in his truck just so he can go fishing with us over here on the coast. Turn back now, you have been warned.
Oh, have you seen a BMF jig? Not many of those left. Have you ever live baited for Tuna, oh yea you haven't caught one yet.
don't do it.
Have you seen my photo album? You can view it by clicking the link below my avitar.

Wait tell you start thinkin about getting a second morgage on the house to get a bigger boat Then you'll find that the drive from Idaho is just too far from your addiction and make the move to the coast
I am a Tuna addict
Time to look into moving to Hawaii so I can catch them year round

Re: T A meeting
Tunaholic 12 Step Program
----------------------------------------------------------
Tunaholic Serenity Prayer:
”God grant me the serenity to accept the fact I cannot go out for tuna today, the courage to live another day without tuna, and the wisdom to know they will come again.”
12 Steps To Recovery
1) Put the poles down and slowly back away.
2) Stop hiding lures in various places thru out the house.
3) Never mistakenly call your spouse "Tuna" during lovemaking.
4) As hard as it is to believe, not everyone enjoys tuna fishing.
5) Selling your car in order to buy more gas to go tuna fishing is not recommended.
6) There are other fish in the sea............I think.
7) Leaving work daily to get home and accept packages from UPS/FedX is wrong.
8) No more telling your spouse the truck broke down while you were out fishing so you'll have to stay another day, or in extreme cases an extra week.
9) If extreme withdrawals have set in, for instance random "hook setting" while at work or home, or making the zzzzzzzzzzzz sound constantly, do not let the tunaholic near any fishing articles like magazines, fishing gear, or boats as that will make matters worse.
10) Tuna fishing is not a replacement for eating.
11) Unlike AA, recovery should be made away from other tunaholics. Gathering tunaholics will only create more problems.
12) It is not acceptable to miss your child's birth because you were out tuna fishing. (My wife told me that one)
Please refer to these steps during seasonal closures or whenever you feel the "disorder" taking over.

Re: T A meeting
Hey Duck,
I too claim to be from Idaho, but now live in Tri-Cities, WA.
The best advice I could give is to heed Mr Fisherman's advice from his earlier post. Do Not Do IT !!!!!
I made the mistake of hooking up with Chris this last fall and went for two days out of Newport. Believe me, when they tell you not to go, or you will be hopelessly hooked, they are not telling you in jest, they ARE serious...
it is a very serious condition, and will nearly ruin you for most (if not all) other forms of fishing, and put a healthy dent in your savings account (or even deplete it completely).
I saw all the warnings on this site, and was even warned in person, but no, I had to see for myself. Well, after my one TUNA! trip, I was out in the poison catching 25-39lb chinook. As I reeled in each fish, the only thing that kept going trough my mind is "this sure aint no tuna".
As Chris said in an earlier post, if you go and catch TUNA!, you will tell everyone about it (whether they want to hear or not). You may find yourself telling the lady at the checkout counter at the grocery store, the teller at the bank, etc. and this condition can last for months at least, (I'll let you know when it subsides).
Well, in short, one trip for TUNA! and I now have a good selection of tuna gear (growing daily ), got the bigger truck, and already shopping for the boat (have to pay off the truck first). All this after just ONE good trip after the longfins.
Well, hope this helps sway you from wanting to go, and stresses how huge of a problem this disease can be.

Now, back to business, let's see, which rod/reel to get next, how many swimbaits, what live bait tank.... Oh yeah, I almost forgot I'm at the office....

Re: T A meeting
Hi, my name is Keta. I started out fishing for trout when I was younger. Next came salmon and steelhead and before long I started hanging around with a bad crowd and was hooked on albacore. Now I'm a YFT adict and can't stop.

Re: T A meeting
I am recovering from another back surgery, but a TA meeting might be just what I need to get back on my feet. I will be there if I can walk without pain.
Does Hornitos work just like vicodin?

Re: T A meeting
TV, sorry to hear you had to have another back surgery. I had two and the second one worked like a charm. No problems and no babying it. Hope the same for you.
Wish I could make this TA meeting! Going to Santa Fe to eat and drink, I mean to celebrate my wife's 50th B-Day.

Re: T A meeting
Hey Pete, it usually starts whenever you get there after work, say 5:30-6:00pm. Don't have the number but you can look it up if you need to, but you don't need reservations or anything.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Re: T A meeting
HEY!!!! WAIT ONE MINUTE, YOU SCROOGES!
I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused. Why would you do a special meeting on Friday when we are meeting at Pietro's for a worthwhile function on Monday?
Are you coming to both, or???
I would really appreciate your involvement in this yearly activity that supports the children at Emanuel Hospital, and supports ifish.net, which in turn... supports your chatter!
Please! Attend! I'm counting on the dogs to attend!
If you need more information, it's here!
http://www.ifish.net/forum/showflat....%03mber=980059
Please bring an unwrapped gift and meet at Pietros in Milwaukie at 6:00 PM. We need people to help with transportation, but MOSTLY we need people to help build the huge tower of toys for the kids!
I think it's funny you are having a get together so close to this one... Whose idea was it to have this so close to the ifish Christmas party??? Unless of course, you are planning on attending both!
Come meet the ENTIRE ifish family AND do something great for our community! Whooo hoooo!
I'm excited about it! It's my favorite feel good event of the year!
Jen
---AND YES WE HAVE BEER!

Re: T A meeting
We're definitely coming to both events, especially the Christmas Party! If ever there was a "do" that represented Ifish, it's that one. Just seeing that pile of toys and knowing that it's going to MAKE CHRISTMAS HAPPEN for a kid in a tough situation is ... well ... what the season is all about.
The TA meeting is just to give us a chance to share in the stories that Keta and Hoggemin have from their 10-day BIG FISH adventure in the warm waters down south.
We promise we'll be good and see you Monday the 5th at Pietro's Pizza!
And 'Dogs, if you haven't been to the Christmas Party and dropped off a gift for the kids at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, then you need a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Present. There's not many dry eyes in the place when they start loading those gifts up to take to the kids. Wow!

Re: T A meeting
Last year, because of a variety of events, Ifish was the ONLY organized group to donate toys to very deserving kids. This year, with Katrina, donations are way off and we might once again be the only group to make Christmas happen for these kids. Their parents are financially tapped out because of their kid's problems. Our gifts let these kids know that people care and there is hope ... and it makes their parents soo happpy to see a smile on their kid's faces ... enjoy the TA meeting, but don't forget Monday at Pietro's in Milwaukie!

Re: T A meeting
Jenny it was me who organized the TA meeting. I had been getting a lot of PM's and people asking to hear the whole story and I am not very long winded on the puter, so I thought lets tell the story in person. I will be to both functions and hope every one will be to both also. I was not trying to take anything away from the Christmas party in any way.
