What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
Whatever happened to the idea of buying some bulk Hevi-Shot ammo?
Anyone know where to get Remington Nitro-Steel 3" for a decent price?
I've found 3" 1 1/2 oz Hevi-Shot for $437.50/case (100 rnds). That's $17.5025 per box.
I also found Kent Fasteel 3" 1 1/8 oz for $89.95/case (250 rnds)
Anyone use Kent Fasteel in 1 1/8 oz @ 1500 fps?

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
I was shooting kent fast steel in the 1 1/8 oz loads last year, It hits hard (when I can hit them). I liked how it shot pretty well, If you watch bi mart you should be able to get cases for 79.00 (bought a case last year for that).

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
GRB, I've shot fasteel in 2&3/4", 1&1/16 oz #2 and all I can say is WOW. This load is good and kills ducks, Geese too. Although for geese I shoot the 3" or 3&1/2". They must be good because I can never find them when I'm looking for them.

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
GRB,
I'm a little confused here...
Hevi-shot can't be $437 for a case. And if it is, it's not $17 a box... If there is a 100rds in the case, and a box has 10rds a piece, than that would be $43 a box!! That can't be right...?
I don't know what a decent price is for the Nitro Steel, but I do know that Joes sells cases of it, and it's sometimes on sale.

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
I don't know why an Oregon product would be more expensive here than on the east coast. But I was buying shells at around 16.50 per box at most retail stores in Virginia. Out here the same shells are more expensive. I was also buying shells directly from Hevi-Shot at less than 400 dollars a case. The whole inductry has me confused with Remington maving the packaging rights and all. So that's why I reload most of my own hevi-shot now. At least I have a better understanding what goes on in my own garage. One thing for sure. The prices for hevi-shot vary so much that it pays to shop around and get it when ever you see a deal and at any time of the year.

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
OOps  my bad.
I guess I had a cocktail before I went on line last night
The $437.50 price was for 25 boxes per case. 10 rounds per box= 250 rounds. Still expensive, but I want to try a case.
I'd be most willing to buy them local if someone can match this price. Maybe some of us could get together 5-10 cases and talk to a locl retailer??
BTW, last summer when I was looking in to hand loading, I got nowhere on trying to buy the shot here in Oregon, and for what they wanted for the shot, I couldn't afford to load it.
Same on Fasteel. Anyone have a local source for the 3", 1 1/8 oz loads?
If not, I'm gonna mail order some, anyone want in?

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
GRB,
BiMart has $2.00 off on 3" Hevi-Shot.
$17.00 per box -$2.00= $15.00 per box.
The 2-3/4" is $20.00 per box.

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
GRB....we ended up about 5 cases short of the minimum required to get the "super" discount on the flats of HeviShot.
I thought I had posted up on the end of that thread that it didn't look like it was going to happen. If I didn't do that, please accept my apologies.
I just tried the 3" 1 1/8oz #2 Kent Fast Steel (1550 fps). Once I got used to it I did fine. It seems a little "snappier" on the recoil than the 1500fps Winchester Dryloks I usually shoot. I got them for about $9 a box down at Bimart. They are $15 at Sportsmans. All in all they seem like a good round.

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
I started with hevi-shot this and really liking it. I was shooting both #2's and #4's. Then I heard that allot of guys in the midwest and down south are shooting #6's. when you look at it the hevi-shot is heaver than lead so you can go to a smaller shot and have more of them and still keep the speed. I would rather spend $200 a year more on that shot then to deal with steel and more....

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
LI,
Totally possible I missed it. I come and go in batches.
I just made a run to Bi-Mart at lunch. Through tonight they are selling non-toxics for $2 off / box. I bought Kent Fasteel for 7.95 a box.
I held the last of the Hevi-Shot for me to pick after work. $15 something.
Screamin deals IMO

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
Mn Guy, My son and I both use 3" #6 Hevi. It's awsome on decoyed birds. It's got all the poop you need and a more dense shot pattern. Try it, you'll like it!

Re: What Happened to the Hevi-Shot?
GRB,
Don't be afraid of using the Estate shells. Rauly got me using them a few years back. A friend that runs a hunt club in Sacramento uses them exclusively. Never a problem. BB's for geese and 2's for ducks in a Nova with Briley light modified will travel. Have used the Kent's too. Never a problem with them either.
