Christmas gift help
Okay, it is time to peruse the Cabellas catelog.
Every Christmas I give a little gift to my hunting and fishing buddies. This year I also drew my brother in laws name from the magic hat. (last year I drew 7 1/4).
I am looking for ideas for gifts. In the past years I have given flashlights, thermos's, wyoming saws and archery targets.
Last night I went through the hard bound Cabellas and drew a blank.
Possibly a GATCO knife sharpener, or a couple of kwik fish, but could really use some more ideas.
Price range $20 to $30 for the buddies, $50 for the hat draw.
Any brainstorming would be appreciated.

Re: Christmas gift help
This might be fun - we get to shop with your money!
Tell us more. What kind of hunting does he do? Big game only? Upland? Waterfowl? And fishing? Is he a steelheader, or just salmon? Sturgeon? Bass?
Let us know. We're here to help you, man.
And don't just think Cabela's. I'm going to put in a plug for our local stores, because I'm finding a lot of times when I factor in shipping, I'm not saving anything by buying from Nebraska.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Mark - that is very generous of you I will take anything from page 48, or that big item on the right of page 175, the knife sharpener would be nice, but one of those muzzleloaders on page 749 would be nice also (50 caliber hint hint) heck I will take anything from any of the pages, as long as it isnt a womens garment.
I get the pleasure of driving across the country next summer for an inlaw family reunion in Minnesota :depressed: I plan on going thru Glacier, and the return trip swinging thru S. Dakota and seeing Mt Rushmore, the black hills, and thru Yellowstone. My intinerary doest leave much time for the inlaw reunion I looked up all the Cabelas stores and I just happen to be driving thru Mitchell SD where a 85000 sf cabelas is located I see on Cabelas webpage the store in Nebraska is the number one state tourist attraction.

Re: Christmas gift help
If he/she does anything outdoors and doesn't have a headlamp, there's a great gift. A good one runs $25-40 and soon becomes a priceless part of any hunting/fishing/camping/backpacking/boating/ plumbing/under-the-car/up-in-the-attic kit. Once it is on, no matter where you look, there's light! Petzl and Princeton-tec are a couple of good brands. Other possibilities include the new carabiner knives, Bailey's Irish Cream, or my pernniel favorite, a week at Hanalei on Kauai.
Can I be one of your buddies?

Re: Christmas gift help
Here are a few that never seem to get old.
1. Duck/Goose Decoy bags.
2. Snow camo over suit.
3. Camo fanny pack.
4. "camelbak" type hydration bladder.
5. duck/goose calls.
6. Duck decoys
7. An inexpensive pair of compact bino's.
8. And of course the never miss "Cabela's Gift card."

Re: Christmas gift help
I gave my dad a couple of leader rolls for Christmas last year that were full of leaders I'd tied up. That one can be a bit more personalized..
Flashlights are always nice, ammo, a really nice new gun case(those things get nicer and nicer every year), good reusable elk quarter bags, boot socks........

Re: Christmas gift help
There are some good ideas, high quality elk/deer bags, headlamps.
I have hunted deer and elk with these guys for almost 30 years, we have the normal wall tent camp. All avid big game hunters. Also all fish salmon and steelhead. Salmon in the ocean and bays in the summer, then move up river with the fish in the fall.
Last year I got a great deal on a whole passel of Kershaw blade traders knife sets.
Thanks and keep the ideas coming.

Re: Christmas gift help
Rain gear is always nice, but one I love to get is the water filters that removes giardea. You can be sure that at some point a thirsty recipient of that will be thinking kind thoughts of you as he drinks safe water from a mountain creek during Indian Summer. BiMart has em, as does GI Joes.

Re: Christmas gift help
If you do lots of elk hunting and are successful sometimes a great idea in the 50 dollar range is a good pack frame. The Alaskan guide model in Cabelas is a great investment, goes for 65 bucks or so. The regular model is nice too and goes for around 50 bucks. If anyone still uses those old military frames that done have a shelf on them this would be a good thing. Also frames wear out after packing a bunch of elk
