Beware of flaming rat!!!!!!!
I have to relate this story as I heard it this morning. This actually happened this weekend.
The secretary in our office received a call from her husband. He told her that one of their employees could not make it in today. The reason was as follows..............
This fellow lives out in the Brightwood/Welches area. They had been having a rat problem so he got himself a trap and set it. Well, low and behold he caught a rat. As insurance, he decided to shoot it with a .22.
After shooting the rat he then disposed of it on his burn pile. He decided to light the pile and then returned to the house. He happened to look out the window to check on the fire when he saw a streaking flame running across the ground headed for his house. The rat was alive and while on fire he scurried back under the owners house.
Well, needless to say, the rat started a house fire, the owner called the fire department and the house suffered approx. 30K in damage.
This is a true story!

Did the Rat make it?
Proly one of those indestructable Cyborg Mutant versions.1 Better notify the new California Gubbenor. He'll take care of it. Much easier job than the CA budget problem.
I'll be back!
This story kinda reminds me of a story I heard about a guy at work 15 years ago. He got sick of the moles in his back yard. Tried everything. Finally got some stuff that formed Carbide Gas in the runs and lit her off.
Apparently he got his entire back yard re-landscaped in the process!

Re: Beware of flaming rat!!!!!!!
That is one bad *** rat.
Our friend got tired of his moles, so he used a whole can of black powder. As a tamping device, he used a big rock/boulder. Blew that rock 20 ft in the air. Ruined the lawn. Blew dirt out to the street. Moles just moved to other side of the yard. They were back in two days.

Re: Beware of flaming rat!!!!!!!
A brief follow up........
When the insurance adjustor came out to the house, the owner said, "I'll bet you've never seen a claim like this before."
Actually, the adjustor had seen 6 or 7 other cases of fires started from animals that went running from the burn pile after a fire was started. Whether it was a field fire or another structure that caught fire, it had happened before.
Danger lurks in the burn pile!!!!!!

Re: Beware of flaming rat!!!!!!!
Except for the part that it was the SAME rat that he trapped and shot I almost believe this. Wood rats love burn piles. They're like a prefab little condo for em.
A bunch of Grey Diggers moved into a stump/brush pile I had Bulldozed up in early summer. By fall it looked like Ground Squirrel city (it was a BIG pile).
Waited until the fall rains really had everything soaked down and lit that baby off. I never saw any flaming squirrels come out. Never saw any that weren't flaming either. Figure I baked 'em in the ground?
Sure hope they didn't move out the day before. I've got enough problems with the ones already living under the barn slab. They're digging all the pea gravel out from under it.

Re: Beware of flaming rat!!!!!!!
Sounds like a version of the two guys who tried dinamite while ice fishing and end up sinking their brand new truck.
What a bummer of a site. At least the guy saw it go under the house and knew there would be a fire. Could have been a lot worse.
