I was at Seal last hunt day. Two of us hunted until about 11 and only left with 4 birds (2 mallards, 1 widgeon, 1 gadwall). Lots of birds working the lake, but we just couldn't get them to commit to the dekes, even the widgeon. We weren't the only ones either, everyone was having the same troubles. I'd say it's still one of the best options, but after last hunt day it's dropped farther down my list. Wish we woulda been there when it was shooting 60+ a day.

We had Mud 9 on Thursday ( thought that was you when we parked Steelhead22) We had the same problem with the birds not coming all the way in did manage to get a few and had some dive on us as soon as they went down :depressed: That was the best draw I have got this year #23 and ended up being a decent day.

Watch out for them Pintail though lots flying and them hens are tough to Id. Dont ask how I know this :depressed:

Boedy- Was that you that let us use your radio. We had a broke off antenna and weren't picking up the signal. Thanks again. I know what you mean about those pintails. The other day I'd say we had well over a couple hundred land in/just outside our dekes at Mud Lake #1. It's pretty neat to just sit back sometimes and watch ducks landing into your dekes at 5 yards. I'm thinkin' about heading out tomorrow but leaky waders, camoing out my gun, and the Civil War might keep me home.....then again, maybe not. Maybe I can take a blow dryer to my waders, borrow my buddies gun, and drive separately from the others in the group so I can make it back for the game. By the way, GO BEAVS!!!

Wish I was goin' out there tomorrow, but I think I'm gonna head to St. Louis ponds instead with the pup for a few hours and do some training. Only one year until he's ready to go. Good luck out there, I'm sure it's going to be chaos with all the people. I feel a #1 is in your future.

I'll be doin' a little when the Beavs win. Ducks will be slaughtered tomorrow, on the field and in the air.

I've actually shot a few birds at St. Louis ponds before. In fact, shot my first and only canvasback there a few years ago. Great place to train your dog, not such a great place to shoot a limit of ducks, but fun none the less. I decided to sleep in, have a nice breakfast with the fam, and go to St. Louis tomorrow. Let us know how you guys do out there today, I'm sure I'll be there Mon, Wed, and Fri. next week. Hopefully you guys are putting a hurt to 'em right now.

So how did everybody do today? Let's make sure we stick to talking about duck hunting and not football. I'll try to recover from today's thrashing in the meantime.

drew chip 89 and almost didn't hunt. Seal #6 was the last ticket on the board (besides Crane and Holman Point) so i took it. we shot 3 before we checked out around noon. headed up to the check station and turned around and went right back out to Seal 1. Seal 1 hadn't shot anything that morning and we ran into the guys from Seal 2 as they were leaving. they told us that they got skunked as well. we hunted from 1pm to 4pm and managed to scrape out 3 widgeon and miss a beautiful opportunity at a greenhead.

lots of birds flying early, but super decoy and call shy. i had to switch up to my "secret" tactics for shy ducks just to get anything within shooting range. not too many flying late, but still a few opportunities.

BTW - we shot a couple of Widgeon that were fully colored up. man, i forgot how good those birds look.
