Coyotes on the West Side!

I am hoping to find some places West of Portland, say the North Plains-Helvetia area where I might get permission to hunt coyotes.

If anyone knows areas where I might be able to get permission, I would sure like to hear from them.

I hunt often in Central Oregon, but it is a long drive, especially by myself, so I'm sincere about locating some property here on the West Side of the Cascades.

There's lots of coyotes over here. In fact I saw one today while I was scouting geese. But there's also lots of houses and roads too, so most of the time I just park my rifle and pull out the old shotgun. Yeah, you've got to get 'em in close, but in the timber and edges of fields it's not that hard. I often make a bird hunt out of it too, and I've shot more than a few grouse between setups.

I'm down here in the lower valley and some of the places I hunt are around Philomath, Wren, Kings Valley, and Harlan; plus Brownsville, Crawfordsville, and of course, Sweet Home.

Just be sure to ask permission since almost everything is private land.

I've seen and heard a TON of coyotes around Jewell...Around Beneke tract...and in the forest company property South and East of Jewell.

You can no longer shoot them on the refuge, but I'll bet if you stop by there and talk to the bios, they'll give you lots of help.

Oh yeah, lots of 'em around Jewell. The problem is, Weyerhauser prohibits predator hunting on their lands, so you'll have to hunt the state forest or other private lands in the area.
