Re: Free Gun Locks
What a waste of tax money... unless they have drastically improved on the designs, most of the hand-out locks can be opened with a hammer or a strong tug in the right direction.
These 'give aways' do not make anyone safer, on the contrary, I feel, they lend a false sense of sercurity along with spending much needed money that could go else where to deter crime.

Re: Free Gun Locks
The locks will make it safer for a young child who doesn't know what they have their fingers on, and in my opinion are not a waste of money. I do not have children, but do know that these will not hurt. I understand that older children and adults will get about anything off a gun if given enough time and boredom, but I also think that if a parent is irresponsible, and leaves a gun where a todler can find it, these locks may help save them.

Re: Free Gun Locks
Gun locks will not deter crime, someone could drill one out, rip it off, heck, I can still pull the trigger on mine with the lock on. I put it on, in case a youngin' gets to it. I'm confident the lock will at least stop them from firing it, if they somehow found the gun, then the ammunition (other side of the house) and then tried to figure out the lock. If you want criminal and ultimate child protection, buy a safe, if you can't right now, a lock is better than nothing.

Re: Free Gun Locks
I believe the locks are an industry donation, not tax funded.

Re: Free Gun Locks
They are donated, not tax funded. I think they are the cable type to be put in the cylinder or barrel of a pistol, or thru the receiver of a bolt or semi auto. Always some naysayer out there. I think its a great idea to keep kids from shooting kids... Something to think about if you have little ones at home. Like the 17 year old shot the other day... Such a waste of life... Any adult can get them open... I think the name of the company is Kidsafe... not sure so don't hold me to it..
