Re: SUNDAY DUCK HUNT
Hard to tell on some. 1st one looks like it may be a Woody hen. Next 3 look like widgeon hens. Pinny Drake, 5 mallards, pinny hen, Widgeon.
Thats my guess and I am sticking to it!!!

Re: SUNDAY DUCK HUNT
I would have to agree. The one on the far left may be a ringneck because of the large amount of white on the bill. Very tough to see though. Cody

Re: SUNDAY DUCK HUNT
2 Happy dogs.
2 happy hunters
cant argue with that!
But Im no expert but wigeon hens have blue bills with a black tip
look at the third and fourth one from the left there bills are not at all the same.....Once again I will say that the 3rd one is a Juv Drake Pintail...Sorry Just my 50 cent!
waterfowlin101 what do you think???????
P.S I been wrong before and Im sure it wasnt the first time!

it is november, there are no juvenile ducks.
All birds are fully fledged.

Re: SUNDAY DUCK HUNT
Although you might get an eclipse drake this season, the subject birds are clearly widgeons . look at the bill length, and the bird size, and the length of the neck,
Better know the difference between a pinner and a widgeon, since the limit is 1 of the former/ 7 of the latter.
Don't want to make a mistake.

Re: SUNDAY DUCK HUNT
Ouch! Lonnie..puttin me on the spot?
I see the bird in question...and to be honest, the beak is colored more like a pintail than a widgeon. But, the lighting is not perfect.
If I was a betting man, which I am not...(see the free corkies post in LIG ), I would bet on it being a WIDGEON, even though the beak IS off colored from my perspective.
The reason is because of neck length...both pinnies have distinctly longer necks than this other bird. And that is my final answer.
Looks like a great hunt by the way...Congrats!!
Jon

I wouldnt bet money on that one ... and of course juv pinnes will have a shorter neck....ya cant let the neck length fool ya. On a mature bird yes it will be long on a juv nope....have seeen it many times...But like I said just My 50 cent! But looking at the Bill colors It has the same color and pattern as the mature sprig... thats all Im saying
duckkiller Sorry didnt mean to high jack your post!
