Default Cabo Pics from below the surface- PIC HEAVY!

Seems like everytime I post dive pics people ask for more. I've posted the topside on another thread, and will post the U/W ones here.

PLEASE understand that these are not the best shots! These photos are from two VERY short dives. First dive was a total bottom time of 30 minutes, and the second was only 40 minutes! Part of the tribulations of diving in Cabo. You get stuck with inexperienced people, and the whole group has to surface together. On both dives I surfaced with half my air left, and would have had a good 20-30 minutes more of bottom time. Since I knew this was going to be the case, I enjoyed my short dives immensely. There's just not much better than gliding along weightless with the undersea critters.....

I haven't done my research so don't know all the fish Id's yet. Will fix the tags when I get them all ID'd.

Goby?

Type of Butterfly?

Squirelfish?

Type of tang?

Brand new, expensive gear AIR HOGS..

Some kind of Coney?

Similar Coney?

Needlefish

Goatfish

Striped fish of some sort?

Some sort of soft coral....

Fan coral

And lastly..A Green Moray with a little passenger...

Hope you enjoy the critters. i didn't have much time to work, but it gives you an idea what is just around the corner and under the surface in those tropical places you visit.

Mike

I spear fished for a long time prior to picking up a camera. I still enjoy spearfishing occasionally, but it's hard for me to leave the camera behind. The camera gives the opportunity to really share with others what you just experienced.

Thanks for all the comments!

It is very hard to imagine, that just a few feet below our boats, there is such a beautiful world that it is beyond words. Your body is weightless. You are at peace of mind with only the sounds of the water slowly drifty by. Thank you Nalu for taking me back to some very good times.

I think Nalu is using the Olympus Camedia C5050-Z and PT-015 housing with an external strobe. I have the same set-up w/o any external flash but alas, everytime I descend to the depths I can't put the speargun down .

yeah those new people are a pain to dive with!!!, Oh wait a minute!!! I am one of those new people!! but I dont suck air!! As a matter of fact I have yet to dive with someone who uses less air than I during a dive...even with all my floundering and constant bouyancy adjustments (insert floundering greamlin here)

Ray & Rod - if either of you guys want to dust off your gear and go for a dive I could always use a buddy and I know a few easy dives where we could go get crab and just mess around.

New people are GREAT to dive with.....as long as you know what you're getting into. Places like Cabo, you need to be prepared and understand that most likely you will have lower bottom times due to inexperienced/once a year divers. It's all good, and part of the deal.

As far as new divers...everyone starts as a new diver. Only by diving do you get better, and use less air.

wthr4d- So you don't suck air eh? Good for you! How many dives, and what depth do you typically dive at? The tale is told at 130 feet, at night, 40 degree water, in February. Fiddling with buoyancy below 100 feet burns air quick.

Trust me, unless you dive professionally, you'll always be an air hog to somebody. I've dove for almost 14 years, with well over 1000 dives, and I still dive with people that make me look like a rookie.

I was in cabo got drunk and agreed to dive the next day. Mind you I had never done it befor- 30 min vidio and a hundred bucks was all I needed-I got a personal escort who opperated my balast-air blatter to go up and down. we went 40 ft down for about 30 min and then for 30 more bucks I did it again. It was way cool and very easy to do I would highly recomend doing it if you are adventurous and always wanted too. You need no licence or experiance- surly its fool hardy but then so are alot of things.

UHMW- PADI calls that the "discover scuba" option. It is a great way to tell if you ever want to learn the intricacies of diving solo. its also a very common way they get people to take their regular dive classes.

Nalu- I said I was a newbie and I meant it...I only have ten dives logged  I in no way intended to imply that I was a good diver, I just seem to do very well on air when I dive. I've been to 100' in 43 deg F water but it was first thing in the AM last weekend (my first deep dive) Most of my dives are in the 40-60 feet range and all except one have been during daylight hours...so rookie? YES! but I love it and easily admit my limitations. I look forward to every dive as a learning experience.
