Desolation Unt

Anyody hunt the spike hunt in the Desolation Unit. I have a cow tag and was wondering what was going on over there. Animals? Weather? I am leaving friday. [img]graemlins/1zhelp.gif[/img]

A guy I work with was over there all last week. Didn't see any spikes, but lots of cows, calves, and branch bulls.

They had snow when the hunt started, but it slowly disappeared. Sounds like you'll get some more snow this week, should be good hunting.

I hunted the Ukiah unit just north of the N. Fork of the John Day(Bridge Creek Wildlife Area).
1st season was terible. No elk and very cold. The cold weather started the elk moving and the 2nd season was alot better. With the weather the way it has been, snowing quite a bit, you should see alot of elk on the move to their winter range.
