Westside Tomorrow?

I will be out at the west side of sauvies tomorrow. How about you???? Is there a report perhaps?

i was on the west side yesterday. i'll be going out tho the east side tomorrow.

i recommend seal lake. specifically..in decending order of choice, seal #2, seal #1, seal #3....seal #4 looked really good later in the day as the birds all wanted in that end of the lake. too bad the guys that were down there got fed up with the early am fog and packed out before the birds started flying.

Mud Lake was shooting really slow the first few hours. as of about 9am Mud #1 had reportedly not fired a shot and there were maybe 3 or 4 birds total between Mud 1-4... or so i am told.

i was out on seal #3 with a friend and we managed 13 birds. we should have had a limit and been gone by noon...but hey, how many times have we all said that? ha ha.

Mossberg is right on. If you can draw well enough to get yourself on Seal lake, do it. I don't know about last hunt day but the 10th it took 68 birds with 50 being widgeon, now that sounds like a fun day. Secondly, I'd head to Mud lake. #1-4, then 9, then 5. I was out there the other day, but just couldn't wait out the fog, so we only got 2. Mud lake always takes birds, it's a pretty consistent producer. What we do when we are out there is, if we don't have a shot at getting on Mud lake or Seal lake, we take off to the Eastside and hit some of our spots there.

Mossberg, what time where you limited out by yesterday. Did it take all day long? Check your PM.

i'd take you up on that...but i've already commited myself to the lunacy that is sitting in the non-res line on the eastside starting at 6pm tonight. who knows...maybe i'll get fed up with sleeping in my car and come look you up on the west side. it sounds like the shooting is better there anyway.

walk up to the check station before they draw chips..if i am there, i'll be the tall, skinny guy with the Oregon Duck Hunters Association ball cap on. look at Cap'n Dan's pic threads here to see what i look like.

I'd go tomorrow with ya but I'm committed to head South for some fishin'. I go at least once a week, but usually 2 or 3 times. Let me know and maybe I can make it out next week.

By the way, here's what I look like. I'm the guy in the bed of the truck in the black fleece. If you ever see us out there, say hi, we're usually in the maroon Toyota in the picture.

BrotherWolf is right, NOBODY knows about Sauvie Island. It gets very little pressure, only 100+ hunters every day....and that's on the weekdays. Sssshhhhhhh....better keep it down. Blub, blub, blub...down we go.

Good thing about the Westside is that it doesn't really matter if there's a lot of people, everyone has an equal shot at the best blind. Heck, you can just walk up to the shack and see what blinds shot what the day before. Problem with the Westside...leaving my house at 3:30am to make it in time for the draw.

No!!! :shocked: I knew the word would get out sometime. What are we gonna do, there's gonna be nowhere left for us to hunt?

I blame Mossberg 3.5 for this travesty. Thanks Moss for ruining my secret spot.

All these posts about birds and blind numbers, cat's outta the bag now. Now there's gonna be 101+ hunters on the Westside next Tuesday.

sorry i missed ya Danger. i should have been there though. started my day off on the eastside and it only took until about 8am before i realized that was a mistake. we rounded up the dekes and got back over to the west side and waited it out to get a blind. (you may have seen us there..the group of 5 hunters all milling about waiting for people to check out. ha ha) ended up checking into Seal #3 around 1:30pm and got zeroed. so, all in all..no ducks for me today.

Yeah I saw you guys, I was in a black Toyota with a ill behaving black lab. I got one bird out in crane, but would have done better with a little more water. We will get together later on, where did you hunt on eastside and is there just no ducks over there the westside is just full of em?

yeah..i remember you. that lab looked like he was ready for more. good looking dog IMO.

i was on Hunt 12 on the eastside. not much water there, but no matter. there weren't any birds to land in it if there was water. ha ha.
