Default Chuckar anyone???

Thinking about heading to Central or Eastern OR on Friday to do some chuckar hunting in the canyons. Just wondering if anyone has done any good hunting for them this year? Also, any info on where to get into some around the Deschutes or John Day areas would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info CC. Unfortunately, my friend or I don't have a dog so we'll be our own dogs, hoofin it on foot. I've heard up around Mac's Canyon on the Deschutes can be a good spot.

I'll be visiting my in-laws in Idaho in the next couple of weeks.
Plan on going to Brownlee with my father-in-law for chukars, I can't wait.

I deer hunt up around Macs Canyon and there are a fair amount of chukars. Steep country though. I hope you have good shoes. First time I ever hiked up around there I lost my 2 big toe nails from coming down that steep stuff with low top hiking shoes I have seen as many chukars down in the wildlife area up from the mouth and it is not so big and steep.

chromebright,

When you say wildlife area, you mean protected wildlife area, or do they allow hunting there? When I think of wildlife area, I think of refuges where hunting is prohibited. Is it BLM or National Forestry land? I'm not all that familiar with that stretch of land, so any info would be great. If you don't want to post, you can e-mail me. Thanks.

If you get above where the cable crosses the river(+- 1 mile) you are OK to shoot/hunt.

The link has the # to the Dalles office if you want to call and get more details.
