Mallard Manages Federal NWR
My wife's sister sent us a newsclipping from her local paper in Calif. The article is captioned "Arkansas Wildlife Refuge Gets Center". The article goes on to say..."Officials of the White River NWR say they hope a new $2 million visitor center will attract tourists in addition to hunters and anglers. Refuge Manager Larry Mallard said while there are lots of opportunities for hunting and fishing..."
If I hadn't seen it the article with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. My sister-in-law had some more fun with it....
.... they actually found a duck to run the place, or..
Larry dropped by the center for an interview and got hired after they saw his last name on the resume, or
the center placed an ad...only those with animal names need apply.
Thought you all would get a kick out of this. I have hunted this refuge and its pretty wild. There are lots of bucks there that die of old age. Then SEN Bumpers got it many years ago in a timberland swap with Potlatch Corp. It has hundreds of backwater oxbows, lakes and sloughs off the White River. When the river floods it is probably one of the hottest Mallard areas in the country, because of the 100's of thousands of acres of ricefields that literally surround it. Can't hunt it all, but you can a good chunk of it
