Default Labra????

There was a story in the paper yesterday about a lady breeding and selling Labradoodles (cross between you know what) for $2000 each.
Does anyone know, by the way, whether someone is actually using one for hunting?

Anyway, I'm going to have a little fun (finally) in next week's column and suggest some dog crosses we'd like to see...or not.

For example:

Labrahuahua -- Hot dog, but prone to hyperactivity and barks at ducks.

Colliedor -- Not a great retriever, but if you fall through the ice, you want one on your side.

Chesashizu -- Gezundheit.

Labrascottie -- Bundle of energy on centipede legs. Great in shallow water and puddles.

Chesashorthair -- Does blind retrieves from here to Sacramento. Be sure to license him in several counties.

Anyhow, that's kind of the idea this early in the morning (on my way to the blind with my chocolate Labra-ahpsador. Thinks she's a lap dog.
I'm guessing most of you have better and more creative hybrids to suggest? I may even use some of the better ones and, of course, will attribute them.

Thanks and you're welcome for something to think about in the blind between flights...

Just like a reporter to get the facts wrong...

They are being sold for $2,500 not $2,000. I'm not sure I could ever get over an "apricot" colored hunting dog though.

And how about a "beagledor". They run in packs so you have to own stock in the dog food company.

Labounder - Lab - Hound - A lab that sleeps under the porch, has no desire to retrieve, but trees cats and coons. Had one - really funny dog!

Unfortantly this is starting to catch on and is supposed to be a great cross. We have a tendency to jump on the band wagon and condemn this myself included It really ges me but to play devils advocate. Who can tell me where the Labrador came from? How many other breds are actually cross breds that now bred true. Even the seeing eye dog foundation prefers a Lab Golden cross that is then bred back to a lab. (At least I think that is how it goes) they have their reasons. So I guess we will see thirty years from now what we get out of those crosses. It has been happening for five or six years that I know of. But wow 2500 dollars.

Any of you have a standard poodle out there preferrablly black we might get rich. Ya right.

One cross breed that comes to mind is the Boykin Spaniel. It started as a cross between the Chesapeeke Bay retreiver and a cocker/springer mix. That breed started about 100 years ago. It seems like a pretty good little dog.

I could've had a black lab/boxer for a lot less $$ than our yellow lab. They were dang cute puppies, but you had to wonder what they would look like grown up.
