Glock Handguns
I am considering buying a glock 32 for myself for Christmas and would be insteaded in anyone's opinion who has owned one. I'm not going to be hunting with it or anything, just want something to take with me camping, hunting, fishing, or any other outdoor adventure I might find myself on.

I had one, nice gun, gave it to my son and took his S/W copy of Glock and traded it in on a Beretta auto.....I didn't like the no safety feature on the Glock....

Re: Glock Handguns
The Glock has a very long, deliberate trigger pull. It is actually a 2-stage trigger.
I have owned 3 Glocks and would never consider anything else for home/personal defense. They are durable, easy to maintain and clean.

Re: Glock Handguns
Great guns, very durable and extreemly accurate, especially for a semi-auto, just mix and match various ammo until you find a load that your gun "likes". Would also recommend the trijicon night sights, they work awesome in low light and even complete darkness. Do some looking around before you throw down at the first store that has one though, some agencies such as the police buy large 'lots' of guns for issue, then often sell the surplus cheap to some suppliers. I got a new in box model 22 .40 w/ ns stamped "Missouri State Highway Patrol" on the barrel for $210 under prices I found in stores. Good Luck.

Re: Glock Handguns
My brother bought me one of the first 21s in the state. Jim Ricky in Lebanon had to order it special. When I asked him to get it for me he looked at me like I had three eyes. I had been reading the early literature and knew that Glock was coming out with a .45. Finally, I convinced him that I wasn't bsing him and he ordered it for me. I think delivered; it was $550 or there about. I had to send it back because of a ejector problem, but once the factory fixed that it was primo. By the way, Glock has a club called the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (or something like that). I shot in several matches with my stock Glock and out shot thousands of cops in the process. It was interesting to watch the looks on their faces as we were loading mags and I am putting 13 rounds of .45 in mine compared to their 16 rounds of 9mm. This was, oh about 1992??? Any way, I love it and would never consider getting rid of it.

Glocks are fine. Ugly. But fine guns.
What amazes me is folks keep trying to improve on the 1911. For better than 90 years, nobody has. Interesting.

Re: Glock Handguns
For Me its H&K's #1 followed in a close second by Glocks. There is a reason that the majority of police officers carry glocks, they are indestructable (sp) and extremely reliable. When I used to work at shooters mercantile we had them in the rental cabinet that had been shot 1000's of times and not cleaned. They are a truly remakarkable weapon.

Re: Glock Handguns
The Glock is a great gun. There are only two handgun innovations in the last 100years - the 1911 and the Glock. The Glock is the best value for a simple, reliable, rust-proof, low-maintenance handgun.
But the Glock is difficult to shoot fast and well. If you want speed and precision you'll have to go to a 1911.
Glock & Fobus make simple holsters that cover the trigger guard - a must for the Glock.
The .357sig is an interesting cartrige, but I'm not sure of ammo availability & price. I would suggest however that you look seriously at the compact version versus the full-size in case you decide to get your CHL in the future.
If you really like the Glock, and you're not going to reload, and you decide you want to shoot a lot, you might want to consider the G19. 9mm ammo is the cheapest by far and the G19 is a very good CHL weapon.

Re: Glock Handguns
Sig all the way. Carried one and used it alot in the sands of Iraq. P220 .45. Nothing wrong with a Glock, they have been proven. .357 has more one shot kills than any other hand gun caliber, according to FBI stats.

Re: Glock Handguns
357 Sig is one smoking hot cartridge for an auto.
Operates at higher pressures than the 10 mm. Its basically a necked down 40. Not the same as the 357 magnum but similar ballistics with less felt recoil.

Re: Glock Handguns
Glock me.
Bought my first Glock 17 in '89...fired it every tuesday for over 4 years @ an indoor combat course..... never a ftf, fte, or any other problems.
With practice, this gun is very accurate. Now I also own a Glock 21....also a great shooter, just didn't like spending $75.00 for preban high cap clips.

Re: Glock Handguns
I have a Glock chambered in .357 sig,,, I also use to pack a P220 sig. I was suprised at the shootabilty (is that a word?) of the glock, and love the .357 round. My groups improved when I changed to the glock, and I have since fell in love with the gun and the round. The recoil is not bad at all, and with night sights and an M3 tack light on it, its the ultimate defense handgun.
If you want to change rounds with a glock, just change out the barrel,,,viola.....

Re: Glock Handguns
I've owned Sigs, Beretta's, S&W's, Kimbers and Glocks and prefer the Glocks all the way. I currently have the model 19 in .40 S&W and I bought the 9mm barrel for it and 9mm mags and it converts back and forth.
For a long time I was worried about the lack of a manual safety on the Glock, but for what I use it for (home defense) I don't want it to have a manual safety. If you really worry about it, carry it without one in the chamber and practice pulling the slide back before you fire your first shot. I read an article in a shooting magazine about a guy that practiced this and he was able to draw and work the slide just as fast as he could draw and fire one that had a round in the pipe. It has a more deliberate trigger pull than other double action pistols which partially nullifies the lack of a manual safety. The best reason to buy one though is accuracy. Only my Kimber .45 shoots better. Haven't shot the model 32 yet. Good luck and enjoy your new pistol.

Re: Glock Handguns
KT, point of clarification: The Glock 19 is a 9mm; I didn't think it could be retrofitted to a 40 because the breach face is too narrow. The Glock 23 is the same frame as a 19, made to chamber the 40 and is interchangable with the Glock 32 357 sig barrel without a mag change because the 357 sig is simply a necked down 40. A case rupture at the breach face could be more likely shooting a nine off the forty face. Please run your setup by Glock to make sure its OK.
The draw and rack technique is one mastered by the Israeli secret service when the Browning HP was their main choice. Grab the drawn gun, bring it sideways to your left hand, grab the slide, shove forward with the right hand, causing the left to retain the slide for the rack back. As the slide releases into battery, the right hand has rotated and the gun is in the firing position, sights up. This is how I keep my Glock; condition 3, Mossad draw.

Re: Glock Handguns
I dont disagree with what anyone said. I think there are a number of good handguns out there, and it boils down to personal preferance. I, personally, would avoid the 357 sig. And the reason is that a 357 sig will not stay in a persons body, it will pass through every time due to the velocity and smaller size of the bullet. The 357 sig is exactly what someone mentioned, same case and powder as a 40, but necked down to fit the 357. So while all calibers run the risk of penetrating through a persons body, the penetration of hollow point 40, or a hollow point 45 is less if you get a clean body mass shot.Plus, the 40 and 45 hit harder, rather than just passing through, being a more effective stopping round. The only reason I list this as a concern, is that you run a higher risk or the bullet passing through into someone, or something else you didn't want it to. So as a home defense gun, I think it falls short. If that doesnt concern you, 357, 40,and 45 are all great rounds.

Re: Glock Handguns
On another note.
I am planning on buying a Glock .45 in the near future. I want a lightweight smaller gun to wear while hiking, hunting and camping but also want a gun that you can have fun target shooting with.
My dad has a Glock 26. The subcompact 9mm with a 3.5 inch barrel and you can't hit anything with it.
The Glock 21 has a 4.6 in barrel wbut weighs 26.28 oz. The 36 (slimline) has a 3.78 inch barrel and weighs 20.11 oz and is much smaller.
So could you buy the 36 to save size and weight and buy a 21 barrel, put it in the thing to use for target practice? Or maybe even have an 8 inch barrel made?
Either tell me I am stupid or tell me I am on to something.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Maybe you can't... that doesn't mean the rest of the shooting world can't. For several years, I have competed using a stock G26 and did very well in my division. If you can point your finger at something, you can point a G26 at it too.

Re: Glock Handguns
On the Glock 45, Glock is coming out with a new proprietary ".45 Glock" cartridge that will be the same width, but in a shorter case that will first be introduced as a full size frame the same dimensions as a Glock 17. Expect it to closely be followed by a Glock 30 downsized grip to equal the 23, and a 36 downsized grip index that it's not hard for smaller hands to really get down on.

Tough crowd.
I am no pro, but am decent.
But extending the barrel will make you more accurate, right.
So could you put an extended barrel on the 26 or other compacts?

Have a friend that had to "protect" his family once with a Glock 9mm. Only took 7 shots to kill the "nut job"! That's my opinion! I choose the 12 gauge protection plan myself. Better coverage!

Re: Glock Handguns
I have fired Glocks in quite a few different callibers, and I only have one complaint. With a full clip I like the weight and feel of it, but as I empty the clip it almost starts feeling "too light" and I tend to jump around a bit more, until your hand learns to readjust itself. I have 4 law enforcement members in my family and all of them carry Glocks. The # one reason given by all is weight, when you are carrying a full gear belt and a Vest, every ounce you can shave off is appreciated. So IMHO the Glock is a great gun, realtively safe, light to carry, but for target shooting I'd prefer something with just a bit more heft to it.

As for the kimbers, their not double action, a definate negative when you are tyring to get that first round into a cranked out perp.. Although I do know a couple who carry tham as back ups.

Re: Glock Handguns
willametteriveroutlaw: Just a couple of points:
(1) You carry a 1911-pattern pistol (Kimber/Colt/etc.) cocked and locked. They are very, very fast to bring on target and fire.
(2) I didn't know there was a DE cheaper than a Glock. The Glock is a pretty simple pistol - not many parts. That's why it is so cheap.
If a person can master the trigger, the Glock is a very adequate pistol.

Re: Glock Handguns
It seem to me a glock is a stamped out gun, I personaly like the sig P229 .40 and I also like the Kimber ultra eclipse .45 acp, In my opinion a glock doesn't compare. Thats just my opinion.
