Anyone deer hunting this weekend?

The late archery deer season starts Saturday. I'd like to go but it's a long drive to a place I've never been. I'm thinking the Melrose unit. I had planned on waiting until the next weekend but I'll be out of town that Saturday. Anyone else going that would like some company for the weekend? Or if someone could point me to an area to try, I might give it a shot, no specifics, I just don't want to spend half the day driving to find a gate to hunt behind.

Melrose, sixes, Evens Creek, and the Rouge unit are open the 9th. Most of the rest of western Oregon opens the 15th. But be aware that rifle coast valley bull runs 16th - 22nd. I would stay away from the unit's that have active rifle bull season going on :shocked: .

I've seen some huge bucks come out of Jackson county(Rogue unit), but have never hunted it myself. Long drive for a weekend shot. There are some decent spots in the Santiam and McKenzie units that are closer. If the there is snow down below 1500, it should be good hunting. Myles, PM me if want more info.

I'm planning to hunt the Santiam unit the weekend of the 15th. Then I'm taking the week of the 29th off for a deer/cow elk combo trip around the Alsea unit.

Norm, I'm glad you mentioned the rifle season being open, I wasn't aware of it. Just wasn't thinking I guess. The Rogue or Evans Creek is sounding better than the Melrose full of high power rifles :shocked:

I thought it opened the 15th?
