Default Blacktail Success!

Well, second to the last day of the season. I was sitting on my stand in my honey hole for about two and a half hours. This was the same place I got my deer last year. After not seeing anything, I started thinking too much as I usually do - what are the odds that I will get a deer in extactly the same spot as I did last year?

So I stood up and prepared to begin stalking. I know more than got my knees straightened and the woods came alive about 10 yards into the timber line. I saw several does bolt between the trees. Then nothing for about a minute. I kept watching.....two more does...then it happened - a lone deer peeled off from behind the does and came to a screeching halt right in the middle of the little clearing I was watching. Once he stopped, he started nibbling - didn't even know I was there. Not much for a rack (forked horn) but a mature body for such a set of horns. Nonetheless...stew meat and backstrap!

Hey Oregon Red;

Did you get that near home? Have an office at my dad's place just south of Persimmon, and looking forward to spending a couple of early AM's with my bow in a few weeks. Have a couple of areas scoped-out nearby, but lots of private.

He'll taste just fine!

The next day we filled my dad's buck tag with a nice 2x3 and my son's doe tag.

All in all, when I took the three into the processor, total hanging weight was about 275#. About the same as one large muley.

It will sure eat up well, though!!
