well jr sliverslinger finally did it PICS ADDED!!!
He got his buck today. a small forked horn. Right now he is up packing it out from 5 miles in . I never expected him to kill one that far back in there behind locked gates. I walked up there once with him earlier in the season and I told him then that I wouldnt be going back in there. SO, he opted to back in there by himself and his 2 step brothers to go and get his buck. I am waiting for a phone call to go and help them load it and bring them home. I will post pics when it gets back here.

Re: well jr sliverslinger finally did it
well he just called and asked me if he should gut it or not. He has been dragging a full animal for the last 3 hours uphill. I told him to gut it and that would lighten the load by about 1/3 or so and make for easier dragging. I wish he wouldnt have shot it behind a locked gate, I would drive up there and help him. He only has about 100 yrds and he will be on a road which is mostly downhill. back to the gate about 4 miles. so maybe after midnight we will have the pics.
He said after this one he will not rifle hunt again, too much work shooting them that far away.

Re: well jr sliverslinger finally did it
Great that he got a buck, but why is he dragging it out? That is a LONG ways to drag a deer. Bone it out or at least cut it in half, and carry it out, instead of dragging it.

Re: well jr sliverslinger finally did it
Have him skin the animal back so it will cool!
He will learn over time that it is way easier to just gut and skin an animal back and leave it over night. This way you are fresh the next day and the pack turns out to be a walk in the woods versus a huge struggle. With three guys and packboards this would be a lot easier.
Fun to listen to the updates, we have all been there done that!!!!

Smart move!
Dragging a deer that far would just about kill me, I think.

Re: well jr sliverslinger finally did it
It's going to rain cats and dogs tomorrow, oh that will really make an impression on him. Just ask him, how many of those city slicker kids could do it? That will make him feel like a stud!

Well you knew it was going to happen eventually. He was putting his time in. Nice to see somebody score after that kind of work. Doesn't matter how big he is, every one you get is a trophy.

Nice going jr sliverslinger.
I like the part about dragging it up hill before gutting it out.
