Default Last Chance Buck???

So far my attempts at punching my tag have been unsucessfull. It looks like i will be able to go out wednesday morning for a last chance shot at something to put in the freezer. Any tips or suggestions??? i will probably be hunting up off of HWY 6, drift creek or hembrie ridge. this is my first year so im not really expecting to bag a deer it would just be nice if i did.

I don't know that erea very well ,but i would say this time of year and the weather being cold if you happen to see any does scurrying around , keep your eyes open. You might even try a fawn in distress call and possibly call a doe in , chances are good that if there is a buck around he will fallow her anywhere she goes. Good luck.

Bring binco's! Look a lot closer. I hate to think of the number of deer I have missed because I couldn't beleive just how well they blend in. Even standing out in the open, broadside! Man if they don't move... all I can say is take your time and really look the area over.

Went out this morning with no luck. I did have a doe walk right in front of me at 20 yards though and a heard of elk went through an area near there before i got there and left some pretty good damage in the snow. the hunt continues...

No luck up here in the Santiam unit today or yesterday. Did see one of the biggest bear I have ever seen up above Detroit Monday morning but he was to quick for me and I didn’t even take a shot

Jeremy,

The advise regarding the use of binoculars is right on. I can't remember how many blacktail deer I've pick out by just sitting down with my binoculars and glassing a hillside or clearcut. They are around, especially this time of year with the rut, falling leaves, and fewer hunters.

Good luck and do work the Drift Creek area!

Jeremy,

Rusty is right, go glass a few clear cuts and
take your time. I seen people pull up look for
ten minutes and drive off. Of course they did'nt
even see the deer, that I was watching at all.
Sometimes it's a waiting game and who makes the first move.
