Default Kitchen renovation dilemna

Hello wise Ifishers. Here's the deal - I've recently added a nice size addition off my kitchen to use as a dining room. My house is a 120yr salt box style farm house. I need to decide on flooring and cabinets but have a limited budget. My new kitchen/dining room is about 350sqft - I am completely gutting it and need advise as to flooring and I'm having a difficult time finding a cabinet style that fits with the very plain old country farmhouse style house we have. Does anyone know of any place that recycles building material - I guess if I could find old cabinets out of some demolished old home... I don't know, just brainstorming here.... also, new cabinets are sooooo expensive! Any ideas from you folks that have been there done that? zip

There are a couple in Portland one is rejuvination on Grand and the other escapes me but it is huge and they have TONS of stuff pretty cheap. It's called NW Recyclers or something like that.

They just did a old retro thing at thehome show and used recycled stuff on a new house.

Good luck

I agree with catchnrelease. If you have not been to The ReBuilding Center on N. Mississippi in Portland, you owe it to yourself. Take some of your extra stuff and recycle / exchange for what you want. PM me if you need address or phone but they are in the phone book, etc.

For inexpensive flooring, consider tile. Easy to install, lasts forever, little maintenance. We love ours.

on the flooring, there are some laminated wood floorings that go down easy for a homeowner, pergo and a couple others. and they would be very appropiate for an older home.

I put down some wood laminate flooring from Costco, in one of our homes bedrooms. It cost about $1.50 a square foot, and has held up well for about a year now.
