First Banded Bird!!
well, in my second season of serious waterfowling i shot a banded drake mallard. i've got to admit that i am pretty excited over something that seems so minor. as soon as i got home i immediately told my wife who responded with, "that's nice dear..now get your waders out of the shower. "
not much else to add...just thought i'd throw that out there.

Re: First Banded Bird!!
Way to go, Ed. I've averaged one a year for about the last dozen or so years but absolutely nothing for 30 years before that.

Re: First Banded Bird!!
Be sure to call it in. They need the information, and in some cases will send you a certificate telling you where and when it was banded and how old the bird is. I think there's an 800 number, something like 800-327-BAND. Disclaimer: That may not be the number, my memory is suspect.
But - Congratulations!!!
Skein

Re: First Banded Bird!!
skein - already called it in. the number was on the band. i wasn't given any info about the bird over the phone, but was told that they would mail a certificate to me.
BrotherWolf- does it help if i say that i didn't inhale?

Re: First Banded Bird!!
In the last 20 years I've got a total of.......ONE banded bird. It was a hen mallard, banded in Alberta the year before I shot it. Someday I hope to get another band. :depressed:

Re: First Banded Bird!!
Lives to fish, what is said in the blind stays in the blind  ,
I am a witness that he did in fact inhale several times
By the way my dog was the one who actually got the bird so does that give me any ownership what so ever.
Seriously though Ed,
You are my hero.
Nice bird. Let me know what you get back from the band center.
By the way the band that Kale got I proudly wear on my lanyard. I wonder how much trouble your dog would get into for hunting before legal shooting light, Taking a bird before legal shooting light.
Actually what do you do when your dog shows up in the blind with a live wounded bird before shooting hours start???????

Re: First Banded Bird!!
Awesome. I'm 0 for 3 years but still trying on the bands. I guess I should get more serious about it.
Well from the past few posts it looks like Capin' Dan is forming an elite waterfowl hunting gang. You guys are going to rip some serious tailfeathers. Keep it up and keep us posted on your exploits. I have a feeling you guys'll be the Team Carrot Milk of the hunting board. Now you guys just need a catchy name...
