Default Found this nasty thing in the front yard today...

I hate spiders anyways, but this thing is straight out of a scary movie. It is big, really fast and viciously attacks any bug or spider we put near it. Sorry for the poor photo...

It jumped off the oven and we almost lost it in the house. It would have been the motel or dog house for me had it got loose

I think I'd rather let someone rip off a fingernail with a pair of pliers..... unless I suppose he was fried in enough panko crumbs to hide the squish.

Oh man, that looks just like the one that ran across the carpet last week. They are fast! We barely had time to grab a kleenex (we both had bare feet) and then it popped like a grape

Gave us both the willies...I don't like spiders in the house!!!!

So what kind of spider is that? The reason I ask is that I killed one in my camper while hunting last week that looked just like it. It was in my bed.

My name is Slipknot and I'm a spider wussy.

Met a guy last week that had the back of his hand opened up during surgery from the wrist to the knuckle to deal with the after effects of a spider bite he got in his yard. Wasn't very pretty. If you are doing any work in the yard wear gloves!

I have a similar product I bought at Rite Aid a couple years ago. It seems like it works, but I need like 4 more to canvas my apartment. Bees and spiders are not my friends, although they do seem to like me just fine.

I was bitten by a spider on the side of the forearm a few years ago. It started out as just a solid little bump with two distinct puncture points. It itched a little, but I didn't think much of it and figured it would go away.

The problem was the thing just wouldn't heal. It started to grow and fester like it was infected, so I started hitting it with peroxide a few times a day. I finally went to the doctor when the wound got to about the size of a 50 cent piece and was still open and festering. The doc didn't really know what to do for it, so he gave me some cream that only seemed to make it worse. I went back to the regular cleaning and peroxide treatments and it finally went away. All total I had that open wound for about 6 months. It wasn't very deep, it just wouldn't heal. The scar is finally pretty much gone.

Now if you found that thing in the front yard......how did he "jump off the oven"????? You weren't thinking of making a pet of that were you?

I remember finding a black widow when I was a kid. I just couldn't figure out why Mom and Dad wouldn't let me keep her in a jar in my bedroom.

many spiders don't just inject venom. they inject bacteria that break down flesh... so they can suck the juices out of whatever they just bit. Most spiders inject what could only be called a binary chemical bomb! Venom to stun and flesh eating bacteria to break down the victim into juice.

It's not uncommon for spider bites to become horribly infected and require aggressive antibiotic treatments up to and including IV Cipro.

It seems that the spiders are getting bigger than ever. I have found some big brown and tan ones around the house. I stepped on one and lots of little ones went scurrying out. got all those too. I hate spiders and bees. I know they feed on the bugs but I hate spiders.

Its a sign that your home eco system is healthy and you are laying off the chemicals.

I love spiders.

watch for the hobo spider :aggressive live in a hole with a web over it. Nasty bite painless but festers into a big hole in your skin, can get realy bad depending on how much venom they inject and how many times you been bit. I hear you can develope resistance to the venom if bitten enough. Hobo spider is not to be mixed up with the giant house spider the most commen nw spider they get big and also bite but the reaction is not as bad as its cousin the hobo. Both commen to NW and so is the black widow but they are fairly rare.

Alright smarty pants. Flat top oven = good place to take a photo, or so I thought. Wasn't going to eat the dang thing when there is plenty of perfectly good cockroaches around...

Won't sleep for days now. Thank you verymuch! ISH!

I'll never forget pulling back the covers to get into bed once and having something like that race for the folds in the covers.

Oh my gosh. Nightmares for weeks.

Pidees are bad things.

We have those Hobo Spiders (aka..Aggressive House Spiders) all over in Forest Grove, Oregon. We actually have a pest control visit and spray every 3 months.

I have caught a few and froze them to prove how freaking big they get. I have one still that when I place a standard pop can over it, 3/8" to 1/2" of each leg is still sticking out. And the fangs can independantly be grabbed with needlenose pliers.

I have also been bit once on the leg below the knee. Caused a silver dollar sized weird round scab with two puncture holes in the center. It took about 6-8 months to go away.

I used to work on a farm as a young lass. Somehow a spider bit me and layed eggs in the wound. Did not know until it was too late. Went to the doctor to have it looked at. He lances the sore and out ouzes all of these larves out of my neck! EEWWW!!!

I think that's why the he-man football players from "The Replacements Players"(?) all agreed they were afraid of spiders...

Ok Slayer that is gross! I'm gonna be imagining that one for a while now.

Salmonator let me get this straight. You found this spider OUTSIDE and you brought it INTO your house? Why would any sane person do this? I mean I appreciate the photo because it freaked me out, but geeze. I try to stay away from all spiders as much as possible. The downside is my girlfriend is more scared of them than I am(and that's saying alot) so she makes ME kill them in her apartment!

Also I purchased a 4-pack of those electronic pest control devices and they seemed to work pretty well for a while. Maybe I need to get some new ones!

If they are bigger than a pop can, more than likely they ARE NOT Hobo Spiders. There are 3 very similar spiders in the Hobo Spider family. Aggressive House Spider (Hobo), Giant/Gigantic House Spider, and Domestic House Spider.......you need to have a lot of experience to tell the difference between these. Basically you need a microscope because the markings alone are WAY too similar.

Also the 'fangs' you mention more than likely were Palps, which are not fangs at all but involved with reproduction and only the Males have them.

And also a spider would not lay eggs in a bite

The nasty critter in the photo for sure had visible fangs. We could also see guts seeping from two distinct holes on the garden spiders we threw into the fighting arena.

Yeah trapdoor spiders do have large fangs, I was talkin about the Hobo Spiders and others in that family. They have big palps that look like 'boxing gloves' that many people think are fangs
