Late Bow Blacktail!!
Well, I'm really looking forward to it!! I'm going to Gold Beach for Turkey Day this year, going to hit some of my old haunts, hopefully it will be stormin' good. Some fantaaaaastic acorn patches around that I can access. Sixes Unit has the late season hunt, which runs through the 30th.
Always fantasized about putting one of those gargantuan rutting boys out of his misery during the rifle elk seasons down south when I was growing up
Of course, lot of time up here to have Mr. Big ghost out in front of me, too!

Re: Late Bow Blacktail!!
My hunting partner "maggot" and I are going to try rattling in a buck, not sure how effictive it is on blacktails, this is my 2nd year with a bow, been into lots of elk first season but couldn't get them within 60 yrds.

Stingray,
I am very interested in reading about the results of your rattling efforts.
Best of luck!

Uncle has been rattling blacktails within bow range for years. Not many people have tried it, it does work.

Re: Late Bow Blacktail!!
I have not been with him when he does the rattling. I am assuming he uses the grunt type call just as you would a whitetail. In his opinion the two species of deer are very much alike. He has some nice racks on his wall, all with a bow.

Re: Late Bow Blacktail!!
Leave the grunt call at home..Find a big ridgetop and walk it, setting up to rattle every 300 yards. Make sure you wait at least 15 minutes and it helps to have 2 guys.
