Default Leaving for Elk Hunt - So what did I forget

So Ihunters - what is your favorite hunting item that I may have forgotten to bring??

I'm off to RME 1st season on Monday AM to 16,000 acres of private land in the North Fossil Unit - hair tag in hand. Rifle is ready - shooting 180 grain Swift A-Frames into 1/2" at a hundred out of my Browning A-Bolt in 300 WSM, the day pack is stoked, the binos are clean, the knifes are sharp, the GPS has fresh Batteries, the camera has a new role of film (have to leave the dang digital home for the piano recital I'll miss ) :depressed: , the boots are greased, the food is cooked, the gas tank is full, the shopping is done (well except for the vegetables), the topo map is printed on water proof paper. Been through my trip check list and everything is accounted for - I even remembered to bring a book this time.

Might even toss my 7mm STW Accumark in the truck just because, or should I bring the my Lilja 22BR to keep the coyotes off my gut pile. They're both great ear cannel cleaners and degreasers  One of them just makes a lot more noise.

For those of you who still have unfilled tags - good luck and looking forward to the stories when I get back.

Yes, don't forget the TP or things will get stinky. Tooth brush might come in handy too, just in case you want to run into Condon for the night life

For emergencies only! and if your cell phone doesn't work where you'll be hunting rent a satelite phone.

This September's hunt was about my worst because I could not get consistant cell service to take care of about 10 minutes of work-business. I came within 30 minutes of leaving camp to drive 12 hours to take care of that 10 minutes of work. One of my best friends owns "Spirit Wireless" He offers satelite phone rentals by the week or day. He has me covered for next year.

Good luck hunting.

Ooh! don't forget to confirm that your Topo map region is loaded onto your gps for the area that your hunting. Zoom in to your area and check!

#1 Tip: Forget about the cell phone, as well as work.

I have a "Kick Start" GPS located on the upper end of my neck and between my ears.
I also carry a compass and a topo map.

Toilet Paper Check
Tooth Brush and Condon Night Life Attractant (or disinfectant) - Check
Cell Phone - Check - Whether it works there - who cares - Value of a Ham Radio telegram to your Boss telling him you not coming back - Free - Seeing the look on his face - Priceless.
