Default Ok Optic Guys~I need help with a scope!

Well, I am getting older now, and I am having trouble with seeing through my current scope. It is a leupold 3x9 50mm, two years new.
When I am looking through it at a deer, say at 100 yards or more, I have a terrific time trying to focus in on horns. Not so with my binocs. Have any of you been through this? and if so, what do you recommend for my situation. (other than more carrots of course) What power scope should I check into next? Thanks for your help. Also, if anyone has what I might need for sale, please let me know that as well.

The ocular lens on a scope should focus in for you. If you cannot tell if it is a buck or a doe at 9 power, either he has tiny stubs for horns, or your scope needs some adjusting.

Focus the scope on an object a long ways off( 200 yards plus). Set the rifle in some sandbags. Now twist the lens one way and the other. It should become more clear one direction.

A word to the wise, you can unscrew the lens if you go too far. I have never done this( one of the 3 stupid things left on my "to do" list), but I am pretty sure it can be done.

Good shooting.

Mark and the dog.

I don't think that you can get any better than the scope that you have. My dad is getting older and he has trouble with telling sex at a distance now to. I am not looking forward to getting old.

Any chance you are wearing progressive lens bifocals or trifocals? I do, and have to be sure that I am looking thru the same part of my glasses every time I shoulder the gun. Otherwise, the focus is out of whack.

If you can see well with binoculars and in other life situations, but not through the scope, then it almost has to be an adjustment problem with the scope. Just getting older doesn't cause visual problems in the distance (it does with near objects). I would get an eye exam if you haven't done it. It sound to me (as an Optician/Pastor) like you might be a little bit far-sighted, or may have some other refractive error that should be correctable with glasses or contacts. If there is something else going on (such as cataracts, macular degeneration, etc.) your eye doctor can advise you and help you.

If you do have macular degeneration and it has started to affect your vision, then probably higher magnification is the only answer.

I agree that your Leupold is one of the best scopes on the market. The Bushnell Scope Chief line has remarkable light gathering qualities. I don't know how well made they are otherwise.
