Default Middle Coast Elk

Has anyone ever hunted Rock Creek Wilderness or Cummins Creek Wilderness for elk? These are on the coast north of Florence and south of waldport. I was just woundering if there are animals in there. Oh ya and I want to know where the biggest bull you saw was with GPS #'s ok?

I stomped all the way down Cummins creek one year, it was quite a story , I'll tell you. It involved swimming the creek as it was rising towards flood stage, hanging upside down by my leg from 2 different root wads as I went down into the creek, seeing a couple of cows and finding a pretty geode. Swimming the creek was not that a big deal as I was no wetter after I fell in than before. I haven't hunted it for 10 years, but I just might give it another try this fall.

cummins creek used to be a zipper spot that held big bulls(I have had the chance to pack a couple out of there. not my own :depressed: ) but the word the last few years from the local crowd is that a lot of people know about it and are in there.I as well have not hunted in there for about the last 11 years since I moved from Florence.

I have hunted cummins creek the last two years with a bow. I blew a perfect opportunity at 10 yards when my arrow slipped down into the arrow rest. This years my daughter and I hunted it together. She shot a nice three point bull at 40 yards. Her first one with a bow. Only a two mile pack and she carried her share. Some real brush in there and the canyons are DEEP. I have seen some nice bulls there, but not the real monsters yet. It does seem to get plenty of hunting pressure. Good luck
